Maybeboard

Intended to be Boros stax, though was built top down. The intention was to play Depala since she is one of my favorite cards, and to showcase what can be done with her. To that end, Depala works as both an infinite mana outlet and potentially a means to storm through your whole deck.

With infinite mana,

A) Depala can be tapped using a vehicle or one of the lands like Survivors' Encampment , pay enough mana to go through your whole deck, adding Ovalchase Dragster + Fleetwheel Cruiser + Mirror Entity. Mirror Entity boosts both vehicles infinitely which swing for game. For some, this combo is nothing new, but I will at least mention that the introduction of Paradox Engine makes it possible to generate, not infinite mana, but at least ENOUGH mana (the moment you float above 50+ mana, you will likely be able to kill the table) to go for a sufficiently high swing.

D) you could also go into Master Trinketeer and make infinite servos and swing next turn. (could win faster if I include Final Fortune )

As for the infinite mana combos in this deck;

1) Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth

2) Paradox Engine + Anoint + rocks

I would like to include Auriok Salvagers + Lion's Eye Diamond as one of the infinites, but because of price I opt not to. Price also dictates that no one in our playgroup uses the faster mana rocks like Mox Diamond or Mana Crypt, which is why I do not play them.

New: there is a third, somewhat unrelated infinite you can go into. If you have Mistveil Plains + Sunforger + Sword of Feast and Famine you can go for infinite extra turns. Essentially, you use Sunforger to search for Final Fortune , which you put back into the deck with Mistveil Plains. Swing, and Sword of Feast and Famine will untap all your lands, including the Mistveil Plains. use Sunforger to cast Angel's Grace from your deck, and Mistveil Plains will shuffles that back into the deck. Repeat next turn, and you will not lose the game since Angel's Grace prevents Final Fortune from losing you the game. Can be made much easier in a budgetless version running Auriok Salvagers and Lion's Eye Diamond, since instead of requiring Sword of Feast and Famine + Mistveil Plains, you can just use Conjurer's Bauble .

With Scroll Rack and Paradox Engine, you can pseudo-storm. Essentially, if you have any dwarves/vehicles in hand, you can tap Scroll Rack to place them on top of your deck, add new cards, then use Depala to add those dwarf/vehicle cards back. play one of the cards out of hand to untap both Scroll Rack and Depala and repeat. each card you play out of hand will basically draw you a number of cards equal to current number of dwarves/vehicles in hand, often leading to you being able to draw your whole deck (assuming you have enough mana rocks, which you can draw into). Cool thing to do is use Leave / Chance to bounce the Dwarves and Vehicles which have already been played.

If you are actually able to draw through your whole deck, you can utilize two different combos to deck out the whole table. Both require Scroll Rack and Paradox Engine.

B) have no cards in deck, everything else should either be in hand or on board. place Restoration Specialist and Order of Whiteclay on board, along with Memory Jar. use Scroll Rack to return every card in hand to the deck, with Anoint on the top. crack Memory Jar, and draw 7 (you should not have exiled any cards with Memory Jar). sacrifice Restoration Specialist to bring back Memory Jar. put Memory Jar into play. tap Order of Whiteclay with a vehicle, then untap it to bring back Restoration Specialist. Now use Anoint, Scroll Rack, and Paradox Engine with Depala to add the remainder of your deck (the role of Anoint here is to make sure you do not actually invest any cards that will not return to the deck; the point is to never actually lose any cards in your deck at the end of this loop). With your whole deck in hand, repeat by using Scroll Rack to return your hand to deck, and continuing to deck everyone out with memory jar.

C) Use Scroll Rack to return every card in hand to deck EXCEPT for Wheel of Fortune and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. Like the first loop, make sure your deck has no cards in it to begin with so that you are not adding anything else to your hand. play Wheel of Fortune, drawing 7 cards. Ulamog hits the graveyard, which shuffles himself as well as the whole grave back into deck. use Depala to search for the whichever Dwarves and Vehicles you are now missing in hand, and storm off to add your whole deck back to hand. When you have everything in hand, use Leave / Chance to bounce the permanents you had to place in order to add your deck back to your hand. Place those cards again on the top of the deck, except for Wheel of Fortune and Ulamog, and repeat the process. Note that in this version, Leave / Chance is used instead of Anoint . For either combo, in order to constantly untap Depala and Scroll Rack, you need to play spells. The concern is that without a way to recycle those same spells, eventually you will reduce the size of your deck until you yourself deck out, with the point being to deck EVERYONE ELSE out. Anoint recycles itself in the first combo, while in the second, Ulamog does so. Leave / Chance is used just to make sure you can also recycle the spells which become permanents.

Aside from these combos, Dwarves and Vehicles kind of suck, so only the most relevant ones are included (which is about 8 of them). This means that Depala herself does not actually see much use, at least in the way most decks use her for leftover mana to refuel your hand. given that she is a 3cmc 3/3, unlike other mana sink commanders like Thrasios, you can actually use her to beat ass. More like you are forced to really, since boros does not really offer much else anyway. This is not necessarily a bad thing however: white offers fantastic tutoring for equipments, and as it turns out, Sunforger can almost single-handedly grab all your combo pieces! For this reason we play Sword of Feast and Famine, and I think other swords could work out well too. Fun fact: Depala is a triggered ability, and neither her nor Scroll Rack actually draw cards. Thus this deck is in a unique position compared to other combo decks to not get hated out by things like Spirit of the Labyrinth or Cursed Totem .

To elaborate on how Sunforger can grab your combo pieces:

a) With only mana rocks, the first search from Sunforger will be Enlightened Tutor into Paradox Engine. Playing Paradox Engine, Sunforger can then search Anoint , which is infinite mana.

b) with Paradox Engine + mana rocks already on board, Sunforger searches Final Fortune and then Enlightened Tutor to put Scroll Rack on top of the deck. going to your extra turn, draw Scroll Rack, then use Sunforger to search Anoint , which guarantees both infinite mana and your whole deck in hand with Depala.

Despite the fact that the deck is built with the main intention of going into these Depala oriented combos, boros lacks the cards to consistently tutor the pieces, meaning I have to play a slower game. This is why I have opted for Stax. I mean, what exactly can I do as control, hope to god that swords to plowshare can stop a necrotic ooze infinite? I personally have no experience with Stax, but I think that boros is pretty good at the relevant wipes that wipe out mana sources. This includes things like Ruination for lands, By Force for artifact ramp, and Anger of the God for dorks.

The general gameplan is to drop your whole hand as fast as possible, play a big mana denial card like Armageddon, then use a wheel and replenish your resources. I wanted to do some play on words with the deck title about how the deck is like a car, since it has an engine (Paradox Engine) and 4 wheels (Wheel of Fortune + Reforge the Soul + Memory Jar + Ghirapur Orrery) but idk I suck.

Sad thing about this deck is I think the concept is really cool, but whenever I pitch the idea to anyone they usually get hung up about the land destruction thing and dont appreciate how cool it is to have a boros commander that actually does things (or that it is the literal Dwarf Tribal commander). So I want to think of ways to slow the game down without using land destruction. Im clueless. Help.

Edit: Included cards that will probably replace MLD in the maybe board. One thing I will like to look into is putting in more hatebears with 1 toughness so that I can run a Skullclamp engine.
