Standstill —Jan. 26, 2015

Standstill was suggested for a replacement to TC. I have done some testing and found that it is probably the way to go with this deck. Dig Through Time simply don't cut it the way TC did. The Tarmogoyf was affected negatively by DTT and TC, but it was worth it with TC since it's basically Ancestral Recall.

Standstill, Ancestral Vision, and Sensei's Divining Top are all valid options for replacing Treasure Cruise.

Also yes Tarmogoyf is better than Scion of Oona but you already know I wasn't a fan of the Scion

Thank you Rythven-Fang i'll do some testing. I just fear that Ancestral Vision is to slow. I need to have it out before turn 3 to be able to use it at all... Sensei's Divining Top is also a really good card but i am not sure about how it could really replace TC... Standstill seems very interesting. Do you think it will outperform Dig Through Time? DTT has instant speed you know...

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Have a good night!

Standstill used to be a staple in faeries prior to Treasure Cruise and Ancestral Vision came out. I would still actually recommend Standstill over visions and would greatly recommend it over Dig Through Time especially if you are serious about the Tarmogoyf.

The reason the still is so good is because of Bitterblossom. You will continue to generate threat while your opponent either has to let you draw and gain card advantage or continue to generate that field advantage.

Ancestral Vision is a little slower than Treasure Cruise but not by much. The problem with it is it's less useful late game.

Sensei's Divining Top is useful all game through but isn't just simple card draw... it's continuous filtering and allows you to gain card advantage though precise use of fetchlands in conjunction with bad top spins, of the three it is both the best and worst option as it requires you to know what you are doing with it.

Rythven-Fang i have a question... This deck's graveyard piles up really fast. This was a good combination with TC. Do you know another card except for Dig Through Time that makes use of your graveyard. It feels like such a waste having so much resources there, but not being able to use them....

Tombstalker it's the black equivalent of Tarmogoyf though nothing really is the equal of the goyf. Goyf is already using your graveyard as a resource to increase its P/T but if you're really looking for something to abuse your graveyard your best option is the stalker.

The problem with Tombstalker is that it's not the guaranteed turn 2 play that Goyf is.

Mmm I think you're right Kaitoghost. I think I probably going to go with Standstill as a replacement for TC. What do you think is the best replacement for TC in this deck? :)

I still say Daze needs to be in here.

Kaitoghost

I concur with that though I'd drop Ponder over Standstill for that.

Cut the Thoughtseize instead. With the Bitterblossoms, you're already losing quite a bit of life.
