See something cool? COUNTER IT. Oh, a permanent that looks important. BLOW IT UP. Running out of cards? Pssh... not in this deck.

'Murica never disappoints. This take on American Delver provides options for how to answer your opponent while setting up a formidable battlefield through use of efficient spells to pace an opponent. While the opposition becomes enraged, swing and burn their face for the win! Such value!!

Very interactive and overall good time while experimenting with our latest token bro, Monastery Mentor, and friends. Some breakdown of cards and their intent...

Threats--Creatures that MUST be answered eventually. Albeit, it doesn't take much to do that, the point is to deploy and protect. The lineup consists of: Delver of Secrets  , Monastery Swiftspear, Monastery Mentor

Utility--In order to support the main threats (or get to them, for that matter), make use of: Snapcaster Mage, Serum Visions, Gitaxian Probe, Boros Charm, Electrolyze , Temple of Epiphany .

Note on Boros Charm: Seldom is it that you will use the double strike option. Unless there is a huge amount of spells cast that would make double strike outweigh the damage from 4 to the dome, the main point is indestructible things or finishing an opponent with burn. Sheisty!

General Hate--Although effective creatures make up the slim lineup in this deck, be ready to burn threats away/counter sweet spells and make the opponent rage quit with: Lightning Bolt, Lightning Helix, Remand, Path to Exile, Spell Pierce.

A work in progress; any suggestions are appreciated!!

Updates Add

Was a free night and small play group. WAY FUN. This iteration I ran on 18 land and either won or got crushed. 20 may be the optimal number here. Adding more fetches to accommodate the color balancing. Giving serious consideration to cutting Monastey Mentor for the Geist of Saint Traft alternative. I will likely copy this list and make minor changes to keep the spirit of the deck alive, because I was way stoked on the build!!

In any case, THE RESULTS:

ROUND 1, URWb Faerie Control? (1-2): Very effective tempo generated with Spellstutter Sprite and you classic control package. Splash of black for Tasigur, the Golden Fang. Won incredibly hard with mentor the first game, but was effectively answered the last 2.

ROUND 2, Bye: Alllll Byeee Mysellllfff....

ROUND 3, 8-Rack (0-2): So I always wondered what this was. Tonight I found out. I couldn't help but laugh about it. Didn't really know what to board, and found myself wishing for all the removal. Was a totally new matchup to me, and damn... just, damn.

ROUND 4, UWR Midrange (1-1): Had paced the game as much as possible, but to answer to the same colors in a control mirror made it difficult to finish in time. I believe I could have won (did so on two lands my second game), but there were some serious misplays. Learned the value of my counterspells and actually wish I had more burn. Nonetheless, was a good experience to see the mirror.

Things I took from this evening of modern was:

  • Read EVERYTHING about what is out there. Not knowing how to handle against 8-Rack was a tough learning experience, but a necessary one. Will not just be sticking to the brews on CFB.

  • Don't rush your play. I played a shock land untapped and could have won off of it after my draw from Serum Visions.

  • Don't rush to draw a card on your turn with Delver of Secrets  Flip! It is absolutely ridiculous that I missed his trigger. Be methodical so opportunities are not missed like that.

Cheers, folks. Further experiences to be shared.
