Deathtouch Abuse

The Purpose

Nobody likes Deathtouch. So here's a Deathtouch deck. Since the moment my n00b eyes saw the word "Deathtouch" on a card I wanted to make a deck around it. Never really knew how to approach that other than just loading the deck up with Deathtouch creatures. But I've finally decided to give it a go.

The main strategy is winning over the battlefield with a First Strike/Deathtouch combo, but I've found a few other ways to abuse Deathtouch as well.

Card Breakdown

Eternal Thirst

  • This card will help your creatures get a little meat on them. They sure can kill creatures, but it'll be hard to kill your opponent with a bunch of 1/1's if that's all you end up with.
  • It also will give your creatures lifelink, so while you're pinging away and winning every damage step, you can also just get a little life back while you're at it.

Gifted Aetherborn

  • This guy has some pretty good bang for his buck. A 2/3 for 2 is already hard to come by, but with both deathtouch and lifelink added on, he's a little monster that people are gonna be pretty hesitant to mess with.
  • That lifelink is kind of a nice bonus. Gaining life isn't a big focus, but every little bit could potentially save your life, right? This is also effective with Viridian Longbow which allows you to not only ping for lethal, but the lifelink will also work with it giving you 1 life.

Glissa, the Traitor

  • She's low cost
  • She already has both Deathtouch and First Strike so there’s no need for additional equipment.
  • She has artifact resurrection just in case you end up losing your Sharpened Pitchfork or something.

Lure

  • Apply this to a Deathtouch creature with First Strike and you can take out multiple creatures.
  • Apply it to some chump so one of Vraska the Unseen's Assassin Tokens can slip through, and it's deadly.
  • Can also get crazy if you manage to get both this and Eternal Thirst on a creature together, as long as you can survive your first round and get bigger.

Narnam Renegade

  • One drop Deathtouch creature. Great way to make people uncomfortable with making any moves early game
  • Combos well with Evolving Wilds, potentially giving you a 2/3 Deathtouch creature first turn.

Pharika, God of Affliction

  • Serves as a sort of damage control. Since there isn't any way to get your creatures back once they die, with this card you can still get some value out of your graveyard. Essentially replacing anything that you've lost with something still mildly functional.
  • Indestructibility never hurt anyone. Literally.
  • Also a good target for Lure, though she doesn’t have Deathtouch so you won’t get that board-wipe effect like you would with a big deathtoucher using Eternal Thirst.

Sharpened Pitchfork

  • One of the main points of the deck, combining Deathtouch and First Strike.

Thornbite Staff

  • It can do a little bit of ping action, like Viridian Longbow to be able to tap any target for fatal damage.
  • It's real potential comes when combined with Viridian Longbow by using its tap ability, then untapping the creature with Thornbite Staff, then repeating till you've wiped the board.

Vampire of the Dire Moon

Viridian Claw

  • One of the main points of the deck, combining Deathtouch and First Strike.

Viridian Longbow

  • Combos well with Deathtouch. Since the artifact's card text specifies that the creature itself is dealing the damage, this 1 damage ping becomes completely lethal.

Vraska the Unseen

  • "What if Deathtouch worked on players?" Well, now it does. Kind of just a fun addition to add to the flavor.
  • With her other 2 abilities, she's also very capable of protecting herself. With how capable you will be at killing creatures in general, she will be pretty hard to get at and it'll be easy to get her assassins through.

Other Decks

I’m always looking for advice and suggestions on decks. Here’s some more of mine in the Modern format if you’re down to help me out!

Revisions

4/8/2024: Removed 2 Evolving Wilds and 1 Vraska the Unseen and added 3 Verdant Catacombs in order to improve the speed of the deck and improve the odds of an early game Revolt proc on Narnam Renegade. An improvement made to my personal version that isn't reflected in my decklist here in order to keep this thing budget friendly.
