This was originally a Voltron deck with Daxos of Meletis at the helm. The deck was based on the principle that getting card advantage for punching someone is good and right. Unfortunately, Daxos proved very inconsistent, and it took a lot of pieces to turn the small advantage into a game win. Then, along came Gregor, Shrewd Magistrate - as we all agree, the only version of this card to ever have existed. Gregor is much more efficient than Daxos ever was, and rewards you for playing pretty cheap cards and simply protecting him; all in all, this version of the deck has been much more satisfying to play and seems to win more games.

The strategy is very simple: play Gregor, Shrewd Magistrate and put some kind of evasion on him (e.g., Aether Tunnel, Spirit Mantle, or Commander's Plate), then hit opponents and draw cards. Protective auras and equipments can fend off some removal, but we can also protect Gregor with counterspells and Sejiri Shelter  , etc. What I think sets Gregor apart from many Voltron-style commanders is the fact that suiting him up equates directly to more cards drawn. This means that we're not even too anxious to get players to 21 commander damage, since we can find the answers to their threats pretty consistently.
