Darkness Approaches (ft. Ishai and Tana)

Commander / EDH Multiplayer RGWU Theme/Gimmick

Treemoul

Flip things for fun and profit!

Sometimes, you don't want to play magic. Sometimes, you want to play another card game. Sometimes, you think you want to play a group hug deck, but then realize that rainbows and sunshine out in the open aren't what people are ready for. Sometimes, you have to be sneaky... and if you do, this is the least subtle way to do it.

Credit to Abe Sargent for the initial idea for a four-color budget deck; the article was what convinced me to finally let my best friend drag me to play Commander.

The game plan is to play as much of your deck face-down as you can, then flip it up for value, running a few splashy things to draw attention to people that do horrible things like try to win before you do. Playing K&T in the right group is enough to deter a wrath, and I've left them in the 99 because I've noticed they're a lot more hesitant to kill the rulers of Meletis if they know you can't easily bring them back. Illicit Auction and Thieves' Auction help direct the attention of the table away from you if someone else is building up one big threat or lots of little ones, respectively.

Ishai can get big enough to end a player own her own, or you can use Tana to help you go wide. Saprolings make great Eldrazi Monument food to make your horribly inefficient gray ogres an actual threat.

Ixidor will let you flip otherwise pricey cards for one easy payment of three mana, and Weaver of Lies and Vesuvan Shapeshifter let you reuse those glorious flip triggers.

Ezuri and Cathar's Crusade pump your creatures, then let them stay pumped post flip for fun and profit. Lastly, to help with the mind-games, we have Mastery of the Unseen and Whisperwood Elemental, which mean that any opponents looking to snipe specific cards are going to find themselves running out of whatever spot removal they're playing.

This list has won more games then it has any right to against much better decks, and it's honestly been a blast to pilot.
