At my LGS I started a special commander variant, where you can only play with cards that were printed before 8th edition. I call it Pre-8th Commander. We haven't messed with the banlist any so all that still applies. The deck is super fun and pretty powerful. Pre-8th games with full group are ton of fun! I would recommend getting your buddies together and trying it out.

Using Scryfall to search for Pre-8th cards

Scryfall is unique from Gatherer because you can input code in it's search bar to edit what you have searched.

1. Go to Scryfall's Advanced Search
2. Input what you are looking for EXCEPT for the sets. Example: If I want all the cards that say "draw", I would type draw into the Text dialog box.
3. After you have put in everything you want to search for, hit the search button at the bottom then after the page loads look at the search bar near the top of the page. It will have your search parameters inside it. This is where we are going to copy and paste the code for all the Pre-8th sets. The code is in the panel below this one. Just copy and paste it at the end.
4. After that hit Enter and start brewing :)
