Pay No Attention to That Man Behind the Curtain... —Feb. 1, 2015

Just testing out changes for a few new acquisitions. Some of the replaced cards are in the maybeboard, others probably aren't worth trying to find a spot for since they were upgraded. Here's what I'm working into the deck:

Metalworker, Planar Portal, Mycosynth Wellspring, Copper Gnomes, Thawing Glaciers

I'll have this worked out by the end of the weekend-ish. I have to say, I'm sometimes overwhelmed at the amount of synergy in this deck, it gives you so many options on how you want the game to play out. It's also hard to stop adding more and more synergy nuggets along the way, especially when I want it be the absolute best Daretti deck evar!

I also want to revise the description and make it more detailed, but that may take a little longer. Thanks to everyone for their continued support of this deck through all of its permutations!

Also have to say, Pucatrade is awesome!

FeralKitten I'm running a copy of your build for testing, and I do have both of the Moxen you mentioned.. What would you cut for them if you had them?

Regarding Mana Crypt, I also have that, and have tried it in my own Daretti builds, and well, it's a mixed bag, and a bit of a trap... I find that because our anti creature defenses aren't amazing, the life lost to Mana Crypt can really add up and matter.

Here is one other suggestion, especially since you're considering running Snow-Covered Mountains anyway... Have you thought of using Glacial Crevasses for defense? Might be another way to protect Daretti until we get dat Emblem!

I'd like to find a spot for Mirrorworks again, so it's still on my radar DeepFriedwater. I'm actually doing a thorough evaluation of the deck today, and it might find a spot again.

Ender666666 for the moxen, I would probably cut Everflowing Chalice and Throne of Geth. The throne has been a bit underwhelming unless I have pieces to already combo with it, though it is helpful sometimes to make Daretti's loyalty even so he can be used twice in a turn. I would use Mana Crypt in a similar manner to the artifacts that don't untap like the monoliths, and that is to ramp out Daretti quick then sac it to bring something back right away, to minimize the negative effects.

Along the lines of life loss, I'm considering tossing in some fetchlands to get more mileage from Crucible of Worlds. Do you think I should consider cards to gain some life, other than relying on Wurmcoil Engine to get some back?

I'm finding as I tweak this build to be faster and more combo-centric I am leaving myself and Daretti more open to attack. The small stax package I added has helped, but I also like your suggestion of Glacial Crevasses. As I mentioned I'm evaluating the deck, so expect some possible changes, at least to the maybeboard, later today.

So cards you could consider if you're looking to offset life loss are Angelheart Vial, Basilisk Collar and maybe Tomb of the Spirit Dragon. Tomb goes great with things like Precursor Golem, Wurmcoil and especially Pentavus(Pay 2, gain at least 5 life every turn is not too shabby).

what about Seismic Mage?

Tomb of the Spirit Dragon found its way in, as I was thinking about it a while back but it didn't have a place then, thanks Necrotize.

Seismic Mage seems ok, and really good 1v1, but I don't think I could find a spot in this build for it atlantis55555.

I dont mean to keep commenting and criticizing your deck, but Copper Gnomes is a solid card in a daretti deck like this one.

As to the Crucible of Worlds thing, dont fall for the "deck thinning" fallacy. It statistically does almost nothing to help the deck. Unless you meant recurring fetchlands to ensure you got a land drop every turn.

I have to agree with Grimgrinner, I don't really think that the fetchlands are that great of a fit, particurlar since life total can be a real weakness. You're counting on the Crucible of Worlds in order to get extra use out of them, which is less likely and less reliable than say Daretti, Scrap Savant himself recurring Mycosynth Wellspring, Pilgrim's Eye, Burnished Hart or Expedition Map (the first two I think really do belong in here).

Might Thawing Glaciers or Terrain Generator make sense?

I love discussing and debating the merit of cards, so never feel bad about making suggestions on any of my decks DeepFriedwater. Copper Gnomes is a solid card. I'll maybeboard it and see if it makes the cut.

Grimgrinner, the fetches are definitely not about thinning my deck, just something to take advantage of Crucible of Worlds and Rings of Brighthearth/Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient + Mycosynth Lattice . I'm running a little low on lands, and in my testing the games haven't gone long enough for the few points of life to matter. If I find that to be untrue over time, they'll come out.

I'm not a fan of Pilgrim's Eye, but Mycosynth Wellspring is solid since it nets 2 lands over time. I am looking to fill another couple spots at 2-drop, so Mycosynth Wellspring might find its way back in. Terrain Generator was underwhelming when I was running it, since I often was tapping out to get my board set up. Thawing Glaciers is neat and works with Rings of Brighthearth, I'll see if I can acquire one. Thanks Ender666666.

FeralKitten, I run Copper Gnomes in my Daretti and I really like it, how did Smokestack work out for you?

January 30, 2015 12:18 p.m.

why not trade out Anger for Hammer of Purphoros It too gives haste, but if you combo it with Crucible of Worlds you are basically getting a 2/2 Artifact Creature with haste for 3 mana because you can easily get your land back. That combo has worked a lot for me, and I highly Recommend trying it out.

That's good to hear about the gnomes Cjhobbitbane, I acquired one today via trade and it should be here soon. I haven't been able to get Smokestack out in a real game yet, so the jury is still out on that one. I am a little worried about it being slow, but we'll see.

I don't think I would trade out Anger because it has been amazing for me and enables a lot of shenanigans in the early turns. If I were to swap something out, it might be Lightning Greaves, since I don't really care too much about the protection (though it's nice). I'll consider it, thanks DeepFriedwater.
