Happy new decade fellow Scrapyardians! —Jan. 1, 2020
And there ends the decade I started playing Magic: the Gathering in... In 2014 the in my opinion best commander of all time got released - Daretti, Scrap Savant. Playing this deck taught me so so much about the game, be it how good reanimator strategies are, how seemingly small changes to a list can have a huge impact on games or just how versatile artifacts can be.
It has also impacted me outside the game. I've maintained friendships after school that I wouldn't have anymore if I didn't happen to buy the precon 6 years ago and also found new friends. Therefore I want to honor this deck with some additions which I will acquire over the next year. My EDH new year's resolutions if you will.
- Metalworker this one is way overdue and might become the new pet card of the deck in 2020
- I want to include at least 2 Kaladesh Inventions, because I think a blingy artifact deck lead by the greatest inventor of the Multiverse needs Inventions. The artifacts of choice are: Combustible Gearhulk and Sculpting Steel
- Lastly I want to make sure the basic staples which are (probably) never leaving this deck become foils: Goblin Engineer, Sensei's Divining Top, Inventors' Fair, Spine of Ish Sah, Great Furnace, Buried Ruin and maybe one or two more
Also, here are some changes I made most recently: I swapped Hedron Archive for Arcane Signet. Well yeah, not much explanation needed I guess. The Signet is the new best mana rock in EDH after Sol Ring, also this change lowers the curve. Thrill of Possibility got a place for Cathartic Reunion. I think the Thrilll is better because a) having a viable Instant next to Chaos Warp will make a big impact and b) if the Reunion got countered you went down 3 cards from your hand which was quite nasty. Last but not least there is a new golbin friend I'd like to test: Dockside Extortionist. I don't know how good he is since I can't really reanimate/blink him, but I think he's worth a look. For now, the ol' faithful Burnished Hart is taking seat on the bench.
