MODERN DREDGE

The current iteration of my Modern Dredge deck. I was kinda iffy on building this since the banning of Grave-Troll (RIP), but seeing that the deck isn't dead in GP results finally made me pull the trigger on buying this favorite archetype of mine. However, due to following the archetype in its current form since its rise in September 2016 with the printing of Cathartic Reunion , I wouldn't exactly call myself new to it.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Simply, you find ways to get Dredge cards like Stinkweed Imp , Golgari Thug , and Life from the Loam into the graveyard, and then start eating away at your library until you find stuff to recur like Prized Amalgam , Narcomoeba , and Bloodghast . The deck likes to pitch dredgers with Faithless Looting , Burning Inquiry , and Insolent Neonate .

WHY PLAY DREDGE?

Mainly to bath in the salty tears of your opponents. Joking aside, I really enjoy fast, weird combos, and once this deck gets going, it's hard to stop. However, the deck is a prime target for bans, as proof of the storm scale (10, ranking it as a mistake) and the current modern ban list ( Golgari Grave-Troll and Dread Return ). Even though future bannings are possible, the deck will likely always exist in one form or another, which makes it easier on my wallet. Speaking of my wallet, it's also one of the cheaper tiered decks in Modern. Additionally, graveyard hate is always common in modern, so it's worth playing around and being aware of.

I took the deck to a 1-2 finish at a Modern tourney tonight, (2-0 Grixis Death's Shadow, 0-2 Goblins/Burn, 1-2 Green Tron), and I must say that the deck felt somewhat durdly. So, I've removed some dead sideboard slots, moved a Life from the Loam, Darkblast, Collective Brutality and Haunted Dead to the side, and cut a single Insolent Neonate. I've replaced a Blood Crypt with a Sacred Foundry, and put in 4 Burning Inquiry and a single Rally the Peasants, as I found that the explosive hands always won.
