While at it's core it's a Control deck there is a strong influence of tax levying with the presence of multiple Lifegain/Lifeloss effects. The pain amplifiers or "pingers" are our Win Con(s). Together they slowly bite away at their life total and gradually build yours up to keep you in the fight. This control shell allows us enough time to assemble the series of plays to get the "pingers" going to deal enough life loss damage. So stick around for a while and enjoy watching the opponent struggle as you slowly drain their life away.

Amonkhet's Trespasser's Curse reminded me of Infectious Curse   and a prior deck I made attempting to abuse it, WB Control.

While many of them cards are still Standard legal and transfer over we got plenty more options that are new we can add. More Sacrifice Outlets for the Accursed Witch in Amonkhet like Bontu the Glorified and Embalm creatures that love to be sacrificed because they can be re-cast from the graveyard and come back as Mummies (Zombies)! Oh and also one of the best cards in Standard Gideon of the Trials which is perfect for any control build. It's emblem's "Can't win/Can't Lose" effect basically is perfect for control where you just turtle and protect Gideon then and suck them dry by -1 life loss each turn.

Like any good control deck we are geared for the long game. The top priority is to stop the opponent from executing their game plan and then eventually and inevitably executing ours. Their pain, your gain!

Stasis Snare and Cast Out offer good control of their board but the real key cards are Angelic Purge and Bound by Moonsilver which serve a dual purpose as sacrifice outlets for Accursed Witch to flip over to Infectious Curse   and also the control/removal we need to play the longevity game.

Anguished Unmaking is for those non-creature based decks you need to answer. Vehicles/Artifacts, Enchantments, etc. Also since Gods have returned in Amonkhet and so with them Indestructible we need something that can exile permanents since they can be exiled or dropped with -1/-1 counters only. Angelic Purge also exiles so together we got the Gods and everything else inbetween covered.

Sorin, Grim Nemesis can be used to deal damage to creatures/planeswalkers in a pinch if need be.

Gideon of the Trials is another key card to controlling the game. You can +1 him and negate their biggest threat until you can really remove/control it with other cards drawn.

And of course his emblem goes a long way to "controlling" a game. Since if you cannot lose the game and they cannot win it you got it under control. Just protect that Gideon!

Infectious Curse

The main Win Con in our control shell. It's partly why we run so many Sacrifice Outlets. You want to kill the Witch, just sacrifice that bitch and send her to the grave. Then she curses them and you benefit. So start the witch hunts!

Trespasser's Curse

The second curse to come to Standard. Also pings them for -1 life loss and punishes them for playing creatures. Comes out early and keeps punishing them all game long.

Authority of the Consuls

Double down on them playing creatures and getting pinged as long as you have a Cliffhaven Vampire in play. It also makes their creatures enter tapped. Quality one-drop.

Drana's Emissary

Every turn as long as it is in play. Running a full set for chance at multiples in play which only hurts them more. The more pain the better.

While a couple of those three alone are enough don't forget about the new card.

Bontu the Glorified

Yes, it's a Sacrifice Outlet but it also serves as a way to ping them for life loss/life gain. Scry also really helps grab multiples of the other "pingers" to amplify the pain.

Cliffhaven Vampire

It doubles down on the life loss since every time one event triggers you're gaining 1 life as well so it'll trigger this to ping them again. Also with Authority of the Consuls in play which serves as another Trespasser's Curse effect every time they play a creature you're gaining life and they are losing it.

( Renewed Faith , Chaplain's Blessing , or Dazzling Reflection alongside this creature can be nice.)

Bontu's Monument

It cheapens a few of your creature casts and when you do cast any creature it pings them.

Kalastria Healer

8 of our creatures, 9 including this, are Ally. I don't know if I should run more Bontu's Monument(s) or this though as they basically do the same thing but are open to more creatures triggering the effect.

Wayward Servant

Probably should be included but sideboard for now.

The Mummy's Curse Show

Sorin, Grim Nemesis

Yet another sideboard card that I couldn't find room for in the mainboard. Sorin creates life loss opportunities but also gives you a nice card advantage engine at the same time.

Sacred Cat

Trueheart Duelist

These two are great sacrifice options as they can be re-cast and come back from the graveyard as Mummies (Zombies). Since we have a bunch of sacrifice outlets we need things that we can bring back after we sacrifice them. Now with the embalm mechanic, you never have to let a good thing go to waste. Simply pay the embalm cost, exile the card and bring it back for more use. Hell, even sacrifice it again if you want.

Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim

A Deathtoucher first and foremost is always a good defender. As a Sacrifice Outlet it's especially good when paired alongside cards like Fortified Rampart / Wall of Resurgence. Then since this deck has a lot of lifegain you can be exiling permanents regularly with this little badass as long as you can sac something.

Others;

Wayward Servant

Bontu the Glorified

Accursed Witch

Gideon of the Trials

Shambling Vent

Anointer Priest

Putting tokens in gains us life and we have effects that trigger upon lifegain. While we do run a little Embalm that lets us put tokens into play we might need to add a token generator for this card to really deserve a place though, any suggestions? I was thinking Start / Finish , Haunted Dead , or Oketra the True . Of course we have Sorin, Grim Nemesis if you can manage to Ultimate him. For now it sits in the sideboard.

The real magic happens when you have multiples of the -1 life / +1 life effects in play.

Once you get a little set up with a few "pingers" you'll start gaining 1 life a lot.

Beginning of their upkeep (Infectious Curse), whenever they play a creature (Trespasser's Curse), beginning of your upkeep (Drana's Emissary), whenever you play a creature (Bontu's Monument / Wayward Servant), whenever you sacrifice a creature (Bontu the Glorified), whenever you gain life (Cliffhaven Vampire).

These all trigger a -1 life / +1 life event with their respective cards in play.

The insane thing is they all stack!

When in play you'll start to ping them for double life loss on each event of life gain. So each event of a +1 life that triggers will in fact make Cliffhaven Vampire trigger and go off. Each one. So everytime you ping them and gain one life you ping them again. It effectively doubles all pings.

Then if you have more than one in play it stacks it's effects too. Two in play and one -1/+1 event goes off that's another -2 to them. With three in play that's another -3 and so on and so forth. The more the merrier. Their pain, your gain and more of their pain!

You can have 2 Infectious Curse   , two Trespasser's Curse , and two Drana's Emissary in play and just one Cliffhaven Vampire to double the life loss. When it becomes their turn they lose 4 life you gain 2, they play a creature they lose another 2 life you gain 1, it becomes your turn they lose 2 you gain 1, pass turn they lose 4 you gain 2.

Combined with locking them down with control and removal you just wait it out and suck them dry of life. They won't be able to answer everything in the short amount of time before they are drained of life. Too many Enchantments to destroy, too many pings, their only hope is to outrace your damage and they'll have a hard time doing that with a creature-based build with your heavy control/removal.
