A Gruul player's grand dreams weaved to life ..
This is an interesting approach to the term burn, pushing it further to midgame and ending with huge amounts of burst damage. However, with decent draws a quick game is certainly within grasp as well!
Creatures are way more present here than the classic burn. Reason is because together with Pandemonium, their value increases tremendeously with added damage, especially with Ball Lightning and/or Groundbreaker, possibly hitting lethal in a single turn.
In addition to large end-step dying creatures, we find some early pressure in Vexing Devil, Tarmogoyf and burn. Atarka's Command is excellent as it might accelerate you up to 4 mana, which is open for an early Pandemonium or Chandra, Torch of Defiance
. Speaking of Chandra, she's here for granting some extra gas for the big finish, or sqeezing through some hits by removing their dudes.
Noble Hierarch is with its exalted simply the best manadork. However as it doesn't add red, 2 copies of Fire-Lit Thicket is added to help with the complex base created by Ball Lightning's triple red cost.
Sideboard
Not too fancy, some cards to hate some decks. In list:
- Ancient Grudge; against affinity, or artifacts at all. Nowadays Chalice of the Void is a thing too.
- Creeping Corrosion; A singleton to really finish off affinity.
- Engineered Explosives; A singleton catch-all. Works against Chalice alongside Grudge.
- Relic of Progenitus; Against dredge and snapcaster mage. Might want to side out Tarmogoyf.
- Grafdigger's Cage; Singleton to shutdown graveyards alongside relic, or Collected Company
- Molten Rain; Against Tron and Scapeshift/Valakut. No explanation needed.
- Blood Moon; Same as molten rain, but only 1 is good enough.
- Xenagos, God of Revels; A big finisher. Devotion is often granted through 3-drops.
