Maybeboard

A teaching game

When I first began to build this deck I searched in vain for an Isperia EDH that didn't run counterspells, propaganda effects and Archons of Thou-shalt-not-attack. To me that was completely misunderstanding Isperia and what she wants her deck to do. Isperia wants opponents to attack her.

This puts her in an unusual position among EDH decks. Usually you want attacks to go elsewhere - and early game before Isperia comes out so do I. Blue white decks especially protect their life totals with everything they have. I wanted to spend my life total - use it as a resource to draw cards. I wanted to be attacked with as many 1/1s as I possibly could.

And moreso I wanted people to play things. I didn't want to be the largest threat on the board - I wanted to respond to the biggest threat on the board - and hopefully play the table so that I was always helping prevent each opponent from going off. I would always be on the side of the people, never that single threat until the very end.

So I set off looking for cards to make opponents attack me. Strategies to make myself appear weak - and means to give my opponents creatures and threats. The strangest Blue white strategy I can imagine. Yet somehow also the funnest.

Gideon Jura, Azor's Elocutors. - and most often it ends up being bribes that get me attacked. "attack me with five 1/1s - I won't block, and I'll give you five cards with Soldevi Sentry The next Cumulative upkeep with Wall of Shards - we have an alliance until the others are dead - yes?"

Planeswalkers are also a primary way of bringing in attacks. When someone is getting close to their ultimate, and the only way to bring them low is attacking, people are surprisingly willing to give me cards.

And maybe I lost a planeswalker, but maybe I drew a new one too.

You know what doesn't scare me when I'm sitting across from an opponent brandishing my 100 card EDH deck? Mill. More than that, non infinite mill. Sphinx's Tutelage ends up being a reward as often as a stick. That's fine by me. I can cycle my graveyard back into my deck a number of ways. And when I'm one on one I can almost always force my opponents to attack me.

And if their aggression leads to their unwinding sanity? Well maybe the sphinx has just taught them a lesson.

To give my opponents creatures and threats we have

Akroan Horse

Genesis Chamber

Oath of Lieges

Walking Archive

Jace Beleren

Soldevi Sentry

Acorn Catapult

Forbidden Orchard

Alliance of Arms

I also try to have as much of my removal give back creatures as possible. Pongify is even better here.

I also need some disruption with all these threats. Dovescape serves to make lots and lots of creatures that can attack me and turn into cards. I can get through it with Boseiju, Who Shelters All

Accordingly most of my removal is in instant and sorcery form for when I achieve full lockdown. There's nothing more satisfying then a Curse of the Swine that also nets me birds.

Other favorites include: Council's Judgment

Azorius

While Isperia is not truly Azorius, having taken up the mantle of Supreme Judge reluctantly, she does share many values with the Azorius. Isperia wants action, but she doesn't want harm to result from that action. Isperia believes that with proper care, the gains that result from action will procure the means to prevent harm.

Holy Day

Angelsong

Chant of Vitu-Ghazi

Comeuppance

Dawn Charm

Encircling Fissure

Endure

Ethereal Haze

Intervention Pact

Prismatic Strands

Riot Control

Safe Passage

lastly Words of Worship is invaluable in this deck, it allows me to manipulate life and cards as the deck needs + Well of Lost Dreams the only constraint is mana.

I serve only justice
