MTG Deck Builder

Court of the Lord of Riots

Thrandir

Standard

Score: 18

Description

tons of sac engines make blood artist happyso far play testing with this showed that the deck can turn mid range really easily, and I kind of really like it, its consistently adaptable

however, as always any insight on how to improve either board would be awesome

Updates

FNM 10-5-12 — Oct. 6, 2012

only lost to U/W control in Finals, need to find a way to eat enchantments

Return to Ravnica — Sept. 16, 2012

Just finished applying cards from rtr for now, Rakdos Charm is probably going to fit in there somewhere along the lines

No Bloodthrone Vampire ? With fling, makes a fun alternate win condition.

I don't have enough recursion to make that work, maybe in a different version of the deck, but that was one of the first cards I axed, just didn't feel right

i don't think there are any cheap creatures you want to be sacrificing when blood artist is out. and you don't have many sac outlets. although that doesn't mean blood artist is bad, hes AMAZING, especially in aggro decks lol

blood artist is honestly there to make my opponent double guess board wiping, or even blocking sometimes, and he helps me clean up quick if I have to kill someone in response to lifegain, until i get hit with Detention Sphere ... stupid OP Oring

Bloodthrone Vampire + Fling is really cool, especially with silly board wipe nonsense. they play Wrath of God or the like, you play Fling, then you sac everyone you have for Bloodthrone, then Fling resolves to their face, then WoG resolves.

i know the combo, i just have Fling sideboard so i can actually use desecration demon against a populate deck, my anti board wipe is sac to aristocrat to make her invincible then swing away, probably dropping rakdos the next turnalso the only two decks that have any form of boardwipe that would use it are U/W control and mono black control, every other deck need to stick a field to work

No Vampire Nocturnus ???? well since not all your deck is black i can accept that but what about Bone Splinters i would have thought that would be a staple. Deathrite Shaman might deserve a look at considering it never says your graveyard. still looks like a fun deck so +1 from me:)

Vampire Nocturnus was in the orriginal deck, but with the mono red cards it makes him even less effective, plus there's a decent chunk of my creatures that aren't even vampires, as for Bone Splinters i don't need another sorcery speed kill spelland as for the shaman, to be honest, i never thought about him, but he could be really good, particularly against izzet decks that rely on Snapcaster Mage i'll have to try it out

There is no Enchantment hate in these colors, and there traditionally has never been any. Black and Red simply get the short end of the stick on Enchantment hate.

It seems to me like you could just drop the Demons, add 4x Vampire Nocturnus , and have a pretty solid Vampire deck.

i know... it makes me sad there is no hate at all.... as for the Vampire Nocturnus i honestly don't like him, to make him work you have to basically go mono black and try to cut out as many lands as possible or else he's just a 3/3 for 4 which seems kinda derpy to me, particularly since as the deck stands now Rakdos, Lord of Riots can come out turn 4, and them continue to smash face until removal hits him, in which case, I've used his ability to drop most of the other creatures in my hand although i appriciate the idea of nocturnus, i just have never had him work well enough for me to make it worth reformating the deck, cause to optimize it, i have to get rid of my 1 drop and my board wipe

... But your only card that isn't Black is Stromkirk Noble , which proceeds to get buffed by Nocturnus anyways.

And 2x Bonfire of the Damned , but if that's on the top of your library, aren't you about to be winning anyways?

and 3 Pillar of Flame and 23 lands so 31 cards... not as effective as i would like a card to be, 50/50 shot doesn't do me a lot of good, where as a lord of riots turns an opponent from offensive to, oh shit i'm about to get run the hell over if i don't do something about this, screw whatever else he has out

and as for bonfire, bonfire is only good when an opponent isn't running more recursion than you could shake a stick at, which is huge meta where i'm from, stupid undying regenerating crap

i'm not saying nocturnus is bad, i just have no luck running the pain in the ass, he was in my original draft of the deck, but i got frustrated that he's not a threat unless other things line up, which would never happen for me when i tried him out

honestly Bloodline Keeper  Flip is better than Nocturnus, all you need is to have him and 4 vampires out (which is easy cause he makes tokens) and pay B and bam, +2/+2 for everyone. they dont get flying but big whoop, most vamps have flying already.

hmm, forgot about the keeper, but i was going more for a rakdos unlife theme, plus lord of riots is one of my favorite cards right now

"brokentears"my deck and yours would have an epic battle just saying +1

November 9, 2012 7:55 p.m.

I think that you should drop Necropolis Regent in favor of another Falkenrath Aristocrat or Bloodline Keeper  Flip . I just don't think he's that good

Necropolis Regent actually wins me more than the aristocrat, she just combos so well with the heavy hitters in the deck, particularly the nobles once they got a couple swings in
