This deck revolves mainly around getting counters. So, getting Coprsejack-Menace out is a priority. All of my other creatures either benefit from, use, or can generate +1/+1 counters.
Constructive feedback and +1's are greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading this and please comment!
Also, thank you for the 24 +1's and over 3500 views, I greatly appreciate them both! : D
Sorry, I updated the description. Should I focus more on sacing or leave my deck's theme as it is? And should I take away/add any cards?
I like it the way it is. I just playtested it and got a 22/22 Champion of Lambholt by turn five (Arbor Elf , champ, Corpsejack Menace x 2, and then Increasing Savagery .) I wasn't sure if the champ would get 1 counter or two when the corpsejack enters the battlefield, but needless to say it would have been a large/large in either case.
Has Lotleth Troll seen much use? I know how great a card it is, but it doesn't have much synergy with the champion. This is fine, of course, as long as you only use one or the other each game. Basically, your deck has two different playstyles depending on whether you want to play lots of creature or discard lots. Either way, those cards are somewhat vulnerable to removal. But I guess that's why you have so many other viable threats.
Overall a very nice deck. +1
Just so you know, I've been testing your deck against my Go forth and populate.
From what I've been seeing I would recommend dropping the Lotleth Troll s and going to 4x Champion of Lambholt and 4x Arbor Elf .
Thank you so much! I agree that Lotleth Troll wasn't working out, so I went ahead and dropped him, then put in your reccomended Champion of Lambholt and Arbor Elf . Do you think I should try and add a planeswalker?
Also I really like your deck!
And I was thinking of adding Rancor or card:Death's Presence, do you think either of them is worth it?
Wait I only meant card:Death's Presence as I already have Rancor lol.
card:Death's Presence could be interesting, but I'm not really sure it is necessary. It seems like you would win or lose before you ever got the 6 mana to play it.
If anything, adding more Increasing Savagery would be more effective, but I', not sure your curve could support that.
Okay. I decided to remove two Gravecrawler and put in two more Swamp because during playtesting, I found that I kept needing more black mana. I might add in Caravan Vigil , I guess I'll test some more and see. Thank you a ton for the feedback!
I'd have to agree with Grant. The mangler is easier to cast and more aggressive.
Okay, should I take out both of the Predator Ooze s and add one Dreg Mangler ?
Yeah, take out the oozes, add in a mangler, and maybe a hydra if you can.
Alright. Now should I add something like Plummet for flying creatures? What about a planeswalker?
Plummet is more of a sideboard card, as it would be a dead draw if your opponents don't run flyers.
Vraska the Unseen would be at the very top of your mana curve. Her -3 is pretty nice, basically a Vindicate . In this deck, her ultimate is going to basically produce three decoys that force your opponents to block them rather than the real threats. So if you have the cash and mana production to put her inn, go for it. As far as what to switch out, you might consider dropping Murder for her, since her -3 can basically do the same thing but better. However, she does cost two more mana, so it's definitely a tough decision to make.
Alright, I'll think about it. Thanks so much for your help Timekeeper, I really appreciate it!
No problem. : )
Just remember that it is your deck. You do what works for you. Good luck.
I'm not a big fan of Gravecrawler in this deck. It's a strong creature but with all the ways to remove graveyards or cards in graveyards. There is a good chance he may get only a chance or two to come back and ties up a mana to do it. I would say take them out and add either two more Slitherhead or a couple Young Wolf if you are lookin for a low cost hit with a return. Also, I'ld replace a swamp with a Overgrown Tomb . Just suggestions. I do like this deck. I discussed a very similiar concept with a friend of mine when the spoilers where first coming out. I think it has potential.
Thank you Joker1980. I'm gonna playtest a bunch today so I'll try a bunvch of the changes.
Been messin around with a deck idea like this myself, and I think I found a better card than rancor. Now mind you it costs more and I get that, but in play testing mana has really not been much of a problem even early on and especially since it's colorless. Try using the Ring of Kalonia ...normally I'm not a big fan of these ring s but I think in this deck it is far more effective than rancor.
I was gonna say Blessings of Nature , but if you don't Miracle it, it sucks.
I think this is pretty good as is, though. Gonna try proxying it up and playtesting. :)
Thanks Joker1980, I'll try Ring of Kalonia , and I'm gonna go check out your deck right now.
Alright fadeoutin, tell me how the playtesting goes!
Added 2x Ring of Kalonia , 2x card:Ranger's Guile and 2x Golgari Charm . Thinking of adding more Ring of Kalonia s as during playtesting, they worked very well in Joker1980's deck against mine.
jurgiano: Haha that's amazing, I've never gotten it so big that fast!
Your Dreg Mangler will be falling out of standard in about 4 days. might want to swap him for card:Death's Presence and Possibly squeeze in Vraska
Ignore my last comment.... I thought he was scars for some reason. But I still highly suggest the Death's presence.
Think about it.... you spend a lot of spells, mana, turns, and effort boosting up a single critter and he gets a dreadbore to the face.... all those tokens, plus some, get carried over to another creature. He'd have to wipe your field to stop the accumulation of tokens. Or imagine dropping a hydra, sacking a 12/12 at the end of your opponents turn and moving those all to your hydra, before he doubles them in your upkeet. Even better if you have a corpsejack out.
MrGraveRisen: I was thinking of putting card:Death's Presence in, but my mana curve doesn't really support it... should I go for it anyways? I agree with what you're saying, it would make killing a hydra or another pumped-up creature very problematic for my opponent.
way to high mana cost..that late in the game you should already be pounding away with hydras or the geists...and I went ahead in my deck n swapped out the giest for Lotleth Troll I got 2 in my RTR sealed box and they were pure ownage so I made em a nice home in the deck
Joker1980: Oh yeah I had one at the RTR prerelease too and it was very good. I'll test and see if it works well in my deck
Definitely like the set-up, I see several similarities between our decks. The only thing I have to offer at the moment is consideration of Sheltering Word over card:Ranger's Guile. Its 1 mana more expensive, but at the rate you are gaining counters, that one mana may result in upwards of 10 life, and the +1/+1 temp from guile doesn't aid you as much in the long run. +1!
Oh yeah thanks I totally forgot about Sheltering Word ! I'll look into it. : )
Alright can't afford the dual land and the shockland for now (there's no way I'm paying $15-$20 per card), so I'm taking out the dual lands and changing some things around...
Took out: 4x Woodland Cemetery , 4x Overgrown Tomb , and 2x card:Ranger's Guile; Added: 2x Forest , 4x Swamp , 2x Predator Ooze , and 2x card:Death's Presence. After playtesting for a while, Predator Ooze was doing very well due to it's indestructibility, and card:Death's Presence was making it easy on me when a big creature died, so I added them in.
Thoughts?
very nice deck, really i am thinking in making this for myself, i have long wanted a green-black, in reference to the jarads orders card i would place 2 since it works amazing with your deck and doubling the oportunity to see the Corpsejack Menace and placing the Slitherhead in your graveyard and i would take out one hydra and one kalonia ring
are the Strangleroot Geist that good? i mean do they speed up alot because maybe you and i imply maybe you have found another to open spaces for the all 4 jarads orders
dosdecarnitas: The Strangleroot Geist s are very good, they've helped keep me alive many times, but I'll look into moving some things around to try and fit card:Jarad's Orders in.
Bloodflow Connoisseur is a good sac outlet for the Menace's counter doubling.
Tested it, really need the Woodland Cemetery and Overgrown Tomb as a 4 of each.
Sorry, didn't see that you were taking them out. There's a chance you will be land screwed with creatures needing black and not having a black mana source.
ThatCrazy_Walrus: How could I forget Bloodflow Connoisseur ? Haha I will definitely consider putting it in.
pumpkinsword: I'm gonna put them in online, but in reality I probably won't be able to get them, unfortunately... : ( Thanks though!
card:Death's Presence is a bit costly. What would you think of -2 card:Death's Presence, -2 Ring of Kalonia , +4 Rancor . I know counters is your thing, but rancor is too good not to use- and will give more overall benefit than either of those cards- due to speed and cost. Getting Strangleroot Geist as a 4 of is also good for speed. Maybe take out the card:Jarad's Orders for 2 more of geists. Especially when you get a Rancor on a geist- so much value.
Take a look at my deck: deck:jund-zombie-ridiculousness if you have time. :) Also doing the whole black/green thing but added red for removal and aristocrat.
Thanks, and I'll check it out ASAP
Haha lol good luck, I think your deck is really good
Hey I love this deck. I've made a similar kind of deck that did all right at my latest FNM (3-2) would love some opinions on anything I should change. You said the Strangleroots are good for you, I'm not sure how useful they are for me though. I'm thinking of changing them for Daggerdrome Imp.
Aroh: I'd say go for the Daggerdrome Imp s if the Strangleroot Geist s aren't working for you, the imps are very good and won me most of my matches at the RtR pre-release. Actually, maybe I should put some in this deck... hm. But anyways, I say go for it! :D
Should I also put in some Daggerdrome Imp s, and if so, where?
I've had ideas similar to this, but never one this cohesive. Love it.
Thanks! : )
I would think that the Daggerdrome Imp would benefit more from counters than Strangleroot Geist .
You can definitely mainboard less Swamps and add in more Forests. Most of your early game stuff is going to want that Forest right away- you only use black for removal and Corpsejack Menace- would strongly recommend replacing at least 3 Swamp for Forest. If you felt like using guildgates you probably wouldn't need any Swamps at all.
If you're thinking of adding a planeswalker you should consider Garruk, Primal Hunter . He brings in 3/3's, which will add counters to your Champion of Lambholt and can draw you cards if you need some. I have found him pretty useful in my Here comes the BOOM deck that is similar to this. I'm not exactly sure what you could take out to bring in Garruk, though.
+1
Hey so I ended up putting in 4x Daggerdrome Imp with my Counter deck and boy did it make a difference. Definitely suggest switching them in for Strangleroot Geist which is what I did and it's amazingly better now. Now practically all my creatures I can put counters on other than Gatecreeper Vine and Slitherhead (who are simply chumpblockers although Slitherhead I usually just discard with Lotleth Troll's ability).
Here is my deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/counters-counters-1/
Check it out.
Great deck man, makes for fun games against both my GOTTA CLONE 'EM ALL and Mono-Green Super Agro decks
Yes indeed sir
You could put in more lands, because whenever I playtested it, I got mana screwed. Also, Necropolis Regent + Corpsejack Menace = Win
@Jackattack, if youre still trying to put enough counters on corpsejack to win in the next few turns by earliest turn 6, youre taking to long. How about Forced Adaptation +Corpsejack Menace .
I highly recommend taking out Ranger's Guile I playtested and I didn't see much use for it. Run more Hunger of the Howlpack
Okay, thanks!

Timekeeper says...
Other than card:Altar's Reap I'm not really seeing a sacrifice engine for your combo, since Lotleth Troll only discards from your hand.
