Counters for Days

Standard*

Sideboard

I've been brewing a Simic deck I call "Counters for Days" since the full spoiled list of M14 came out. It's very similar to the old craterhoof behemoth decks, and runs along the same plan; get a big-ass creature through elvish mana ramp, and giggle as you trample over your opponents defenses. And then swear profusely when they think twice into a miracle'd terminus. But mostly, giggle.

Ramp is provided by Elvish Archdruid, Arbor Elf, and the Mystic. Card Draw is provided by the Zamek Guildmage, Fathom Mage, and Garruk. Master Biomancer, Craterhoof, and the Hydra all provide your Win-cons. Land base is heavily green, with blue splash provided by the Breeding Pools and Caverns. Debated adding in the Hinterlands, but didn't want to reduce my chances of untapping with the Arbor Elf. May end up adding those back in, depending on how testing goes.

EDIT:

After playtesting, I've decided to combine my Simic version with the GW "elfball" version that's been popping up online. Basic strategy is the same, but Gavony Township, Restoration Angel, and Champ of Lambholt all provide added reach/evasion for my team. When combined with the Zameck Guildmage or Master Biomancer, even the lowly Elivish Mystic can eat some faces. Oh, and figured two Progenitor Mimics to steal opposing Legendaries or Archangels could be amusing.

For sideboard, I took out the ground seal (scavenging ooze was typically enough) and replaced it with Plummet, to deal with those pesky archangels of thrune/aurilia's.

EDIT 2: Continued to edit. Previous forms of the deck were just too....win-more/lose more for my taste. Little consistency. Made the following edits to give me more of a chance against control:

Took out the craterhoof. It was good, but entirely too swingy/win-more. I had already begun testing out the Champ of Lambholdt to much better effect and 5 less mana. That and just too much of an obvious "hey, counter me!" card.

Restoration Angel- good, but not enough. Swapped her out with three Ready // Willing to act as a board-wipe preventer/combat trick to stop crack-backs.

Swapped GCoB for Garruk Relentless. Cheaper, and with more non-creature spells being added, I wasn't too fond of using his +1. Plus, relentless just seemed to syngergize better with Champ/Master Biomancer, and his tutor/fight abilities are never bad. His ultimate is a good surprise as well.

Pilgrims replaced Mystic to add more white mana sources.

Finally, Ajani and Gideon both make appearances. Ajani provides more counters/sneaking through attacks, while Gideon is just a pain to deal with.
