Please upvote if you like it! This is my Izzet counter burn deck. It's based around my creatures causing havoc and mayhem from me casting instants and sorcery's. We want our instant and sorcery spells to be as cheap as possible in order to maximize the benefits of my creatures. The more I cast the more it hurts. With 1 gutterrsnipe and 1 Thermo-Alchemist we can get insane damage going! Casting just Shock will do 6 damage. You tap alchemist to deal 1. Then cast shock to deal 2, which triggers gutter for another 2. Then casting it untaps alchemist, which you proceed to tap again for another 1. Pretty great.

-Arcane Denial, Counterspell, and Mana Leak are my counter/draw mechanisms. Allowing me to control the board as well as get draw advantage.

-Shock, Lightning Bolt, and Skullcrack are my burns.

-Ponder is for awesome card draw.

-Gelectrode pings for one here or there but untaps once I cast instants or sorcery's.

-Guttersnipe starts to deal a lot of damage once he comes out. whether I use a counter spell or burn, it activates.

-Thermo-Alchemist is just like Gelectrode but he damage all opponents and cost 1 less to cast.

- Ral Zarek is fantastic for this deck. I mainly have him for untapping my creatures such as Gelectrode or Thermo-Alchemist. Also tapping creatures that are too much to handle. His other abilities are just icing on the cake to me.

Any and all suggestions are much appreciated! If you like it please upvote! Thanks for looking!

I like this. + 1 from me. I've long wanted to make a deck on the same basic theme, and there are a lot of good ideas in here.

I love this deck!

Just wondering, why did you decide to take Ponder?

I have a similar deck that I built in standard if you want to check it out!

I took ponder because it offers 3 cards to look at, reorder as you please and then draw. If those 3 are cards you didn't want it also offers a shuffle. Very versatile

Have you perhaps considered Preordain?

I've gotten a bit into pauper recently and there is some tight debate over the preferred card.

The general opinion that I have gotten is that Ponder is better when you are digging for specific cards while Preordain is better when you are overall trying to improve the quality of your draws.

What do you think?

Qwer57764 Hmmm, well ponder is essentially a scry 3 with the chance to reset if you don't like what you see. You can't put any cards on the bottom of your library but I think that's pretty minimal.IMHO I think ponder is better over all. Looking at the top 3 cards is better than looking at 2. The chance to reshuffle is invaluable as well. Preordain is great but I think ponder is superior in every way.

It's pretty close though. You are right about ponder digging deeper and ordain improving draw. But they are neck to neck, and I think it all comes down to preference.

Dredgar Yeah I certainly see your point. The argument that I have seen is that with Preordain you can keep one of the cards and pitch the other. Maybe better over the long game? Also, without shuffle effects, you can keep the cards that you bottom on the bottom.

But I'm sure that there is a reason that Ponder is restricted in Vintage! Thanks for the thoughts!

Curious Homunculus  Flip or Goblin Electromancer might be interesting in this deck, it would need testing.
