Something I'm already seeing from the spoilers of RTR... man, this set is going to be amazing!! I hope Putrefy comes back!
The main idea is to get Death's Presence out and just rack up the +1/+1 counters with Undying and Scavenge and Corpsejack Menace , using Jarad and Korozda Guildmage as sac engines.
So Vraska, run her.
How about Slitherhead and Champion of Lambholt . Scavenge with Champion is awesome.
:O Never seen Slitherhead yet. That's an amazing card.
Yeah I saw it and had the same face lol.
Yeah it's hard to imagine running Golgari without Vraska the Unseen , but I want to playtest without her first. She doesn't synergize with the rest of the deck in any particularly awesome way, she's just a superstar on her own.
I was considering Slitherhead as a one-drop... I would like to avoid Arbor Elf in favour of some of the new stuff, my Defender Ramp team. Slitherhead has the synergy to fit in, and I believe I need Lotleth Troll in the two-drop slot, so I have to figure a few things out there.
And Champion of Lambholt would be wicked in here, I agree! I will see about fitting her in.
I would certainly try to make room for Champion of Lambholt because again, her plus scavenge is really really awesome.
Sweet, awesome deck though. +1.
Thanks! I subbed in two Lotleth Troll s for two Gatecreeper Vine s, because they are insanely awesome... but I'm already having doubts. The original plan for this deck involves bringing out my creatures and sacrificing them with Jarad and the Guildmage... the Troll bypasses the battlefield by making me discard... yes, I'm going to have to make two separate decks. Just decided.
why wouldnt you run Lotleth Troll and Gravecrawler
Because there is a difference between discarding a creature card, and what you're thinking of, sacrificing a creature card. Lotleth Troll only activates its +1/+1 out of hand, not the battlefield.
The Lotleth Troll /Gravecrawler (or /Veilborn Ghoul !) is for another deck. That troll is mega-powerful, and Gravecrawler would end up ion play eventually, but a deck should not have such conflicting mechanics.
Troll doesn't work with:Axebane Guardian and Gatecreeper Vine - you don't get ramp because you discarded themChampion of Lambholt - creatures don't enter the battlefield for herDreg Mangler - Though Scavenge works with Troll, if I discard, I miss the first hasty part of its usefulnessJarad, Golgari Lich Lord and Korozda Guildmage - creatures already went to the graveyard directly, none to sacrifice for great benefit!Strangleroot Geist - You discard it, and you're missing TWO lives of beats
So, do you understand how the conflicting mechanics make this a Golgari deck that doesn't want the Lotleth Troll ? That Troll wants Gravecrawler and Veilborn Ghoul , Kessig Cagebreakers , Splinterfright ... it's a different de3ck than this.
Ok, I made a deck focused on the Troll: Lotleth Gravebeats. Right now, it's very creature-heavy, and all graveyard-focused.
Check out my deck, deck:big-n-beefy-open-for-suggestion
I'd take out guild gate and run Woodland Cemetery (I know you can search for it with Gatecreeper Vine but The cemetery will never come in tapped since Overgrown tomb is a swamp and forest.
I think I will do that... and I'm going to take out the Gatecreeper Vine s and Axebane Guardian s too... Defender Mana Ramp has been underwhelming so far... I'm interested to see it work, but I think we need more cards spoiled.
Ok, I have updated the deck to its current physical form (except I only have two Overgrown Tomb s right now). Looks like there's still some Defender ramp/mana fixing in there, but I could easily see them coming out for more Abrupt Decay or for Increasing Savagery and Rancor . I'll playtest both this week and maybe take this deck to FNM if it seems really scary.
I'll want to sideboard some serious enchantment destruction in case of Rest in Peace , because that card is amazing for shutting down decks just like this!
Also, Primordial Hydra should have a place, I think. And Golgari Charm , but maybe that's as a sideboard against Bonfires or something.
@ Long_Con for your suggestion of a Primordial Hydra i've this deck, When did that get in the undercity?
def a +1 for the deck, sick build
Here's an interesting idea: Predator Ooze ? It may be a bit difficult to play but it would be extremely good here
