CONTROL THE LANDS

This is a deck that I threw together with pretty much one concept in mind, big ass creature lands. This is mainly accomplished through Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper and his ability. Currently this deck is setup for control. The deck still needs polishing but it is very fun to play. If you have any suggestions that what help to make the control in this deck better I would love to gear them as this is my first control deck.

Strategy

The main strategy for this deck is getting Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper out as early as possible and stopping what your opponent wants to do as much as possible. Once he is just make sure that you keep enough mana untapped to cast instants on your opponent's turn so you can control what they do and at the same time add counters to your lands.

How to add counters

Now as far as adding the counters to your lands there are two ways that you can go about doing this, going wide or going big.

Going wide

Going wide means that you will be putting counters on a lot of lands. This makes them weaker individually but it also creates a nice wall of blockers. This does have it's weak point however. Going wide will make more of your lands creatures which will leave them wide open to creature burn. If you don't have a good amount of land in a control deck it just won't work nor will you be able to add more counters to your lands.

Going big

Going big means that you will only add counters to a select few lands. This will make the individual lands much more powerful but you won't have as many blockers. Sure making any lands become creatures will leave them open to burn or anything that effects that creatures, but using this strategy won't put your mana as much of a risk as going wide will. So the downside of using this way of adding counters will leave you with less blockers and it is a bit slower to making more creatures.

Adding counters conclusion

Whether you go wide or big really just depends on your opponent. If they are playing a deck with creature burn and destruction then I would suggest going big. If they produce a lot of creatures then I would suggest going wide. How you add counters to your lands is really just all about reading the situation and what your opponent's deck does.

Conclusion

This deck is really just a deck I wanted to make for having fun when playing and to get out of my usual style of game play. Just remember to get Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper out as quickly as possible, keep mana up on your opponents turn, and read the situation as to whether to go wide or big or maybe a bit of both. Please leave a comment if you have any suggestions about how I should make this deck stronger. I hope you enjoy!
