Competitve Najeela: The Inevitable Najeela

Commander / EDH Aggro Combo Competitive Five Color

revmo

This is the Najeela list I'm currently using. My previous list ran some Razamataz combos in addition to a Najeela package. This list was fun, but I wanted to focus more on Najeela as she ended up being my most common win condition.

Najeela is cheap creature who makes dudes who make dudes. How often do you see an ability that lets tokens make tokens? That's pretty relephant. Throw in the fact she gives you more combats to make dudes who make dudes and things get out of hand pretty quickly. If that wasn't good enough, lets give these dudes haste, trample, AND lifelink? On top of all of this, the only thing she really has to do is be present. You never have to attack with her if you don't really want to, but it definitely doesn't hurt if the option is available.

Besides her broken non-sense, its not very often that aggro is an option for cEDH, even if its more of combo-aggro. Its kind of a refreshing option in a format full of fast combo and stax. Speaking of stax, guess who doesn't really care about stax? Najeela. All the dork mana and triggers lets you work your way around most stax effects and her triggered dudes could care less about things such as combat limiters and propaganda/ghostly prison effects. Get some!

Not too much effort when it comes to Najeela, just need some dudes and something to do with the dudes. The main line of play is to create a situation in which you can use these dudes to create mana, to make more combats, to make more dudes, to make more mana, to make more combats. You get the idea.

  • Derevi, Empyrial Tactician: This bird dudette does serious work. She is generally the first method you try for if possible. Just need 4 bodies of any kind that can attack and access to 1 untapped mana of any color, and access to any number of permanents that can make the other 4 colors while Najeela is present. This will lead to infinite extra combats.
  • Nature's Will: This unsung hero leads to the fastest possible win (Turn 3), as long as you can make all 5 colors among the three lands you have available. Turn 2 Najeela swings on Turn 3, she makes contact with one opponent and the dude makes contact with another. Two untap triggers for all of your lands will net you the mana to make another combat. wash/rinse/repeat.
  • Druids' Repository: While not as expensive as Nature's Will, sometimes this one will keep you short by one mana due to the fact the dudes created by Najeela this combat do not trigger Druids' Repository. If you happen to have enough dudes or some open mana to make up the difference, you're in like Flynn.

No worries, there are plenty of support dudes as well as control pieces that help you create favorable board states or situations.

  • Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive: This dudette makes all these little dudes unblockable. Unblockable dudes helps generate triggers when the board is full of other dudes and you're in desperate need of triggers.
  • Combat Celebrant: Need that one extra combat to generate dudes and/or triggers/mana? Have no fear, this dude can give you just that, and on top of that, he's a mighty WARRIOR! Guess who also happens to be unblockable of Tetsuko is lurking on your board? Yeah that's right, this dude.
  • Mirror Entity: Wish you had something to dump all this mana into? Wish your dudes were just a little bit bigger? Wish you had another dude who could also help you make dudes? Look no further than this omni-dude! Mirror Entity counts as all creature types and can make all of your dudes, regardless of what kind of dude they are, into Warrior dudes, and while he's at it, make the BIG warrior dudes. If Najeela has bit the big one, but you have several dudes just duding around and feeling froggy, you can always send them someone's way and just make them big. I hear that can be good sometimes.
  • Dark Confidant, Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Mindblade Render, Tymna the Weaver: While not Warriors, these little dudes help fuel the fire with some card draw. Mmmm, card draw.
  • Aven Mindcensor, Caustic Caterpillar, Deathrite Shaman, Gilded Drake, Manglehorn: Gotta keep the man down and these are the dudes to do it. Just some dude on dude crime.
  • Aura Shards, Rest in Peace, Root Maze, Stony Silence, Winter Orb: More of the same, just not with dudes. Fun fact: Winter Orb becomes crazy fun when Derevi or Nature's Will is online.
  • Secure the Wastes: What is this garbage? Glad you asked! Sometimes, its nice to make warrior dudes at the end of someone else's turn so you can cast Najeela and bodies who can attack that turn AND make dudes. Sometimes its nice to be able to Ambush Viper some unsuspecting person thinking they have a free line of attack for their own triggers. Sometimes, its just nice to clear the board of artifacts and enchantments when Aura Shards is in play.

The strategy for this deck is heavily focused on Najeela, but you can still win without her. A strange as it seems, Mirror Entity and Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive do serious work, with and without her. If its mid-game and Najeela has been hated out of the game, but you still have a few dudes hanging around and access to Mirror Entity and Tetsuko, you can still start dropping unfavorable opponents like flies, and for this strategy, Gaea's Cradle definitely helps. Use Mirror Entity to make er'body into 1/1's. Now er'body is unblockable because of Tetsuko. Declare attacks and then respond to no blocks by pumping everyone up with all the manas. The more dudes you have available, be it dorks, dudes, or support dudes, the cheaper it is to kill someone.

If by some weird miracle you have Najeela in addition to the other two as well as a couple of dorks/dudes, but everyone on the board has dude who can prevent your dudes from making contact, you can turn everyone into unblockable 1/1 warriors, and end up doubling up on your unblockable dudes because of Najeela. After no blocks, dump all your mana (if Gaea's Cradle is out, it just now doubled up on the mana it can produce) and just turn everyone into pink mist without the help of extra combats!
