This deck is designed to be competitive in the current Ixalan Standard. The deck is essentially a cheaper copy of the Blue/Black Control deck, splashing red for a few key cards like Sweltering Suns and Unlicensed Disintegration. Also, while there is Search for azcanta , Arguel's Blood Fast also made the main board in testing due to its very helpful nature against both Blue/White Approach decks and other Blue/Black Control decks, and it can also help out against Temur Energy decks by helping me to draw into a Sweltering Suns or Bontu's Last Reckoning.

Following the success of Blue/Black Control at Nationals, I decided to use unconventional sideboard tactics in order to assist in winning against other Blue/Black Control, Blue/White Approach, and Temur Energy decks. Against control, I bring in Daring Saboteur as a form of additional card draw/card filtering, Kitesail Freebooter as a way of getting cards out of their hands early, in addition to having a flying body on the battlefield very early on, and Negate and Jace's Defeat to counter their spells outright. Against Aggro and Midrange decks, a second copy of Sweltering Suns comes in, as well as Vizier of Many Faces and Never / Return, and Gifted Aetherborn in order to properly deal with the threats.

A big undervalued card in this deck is Hostage Taker, which allows me to take enemy The Scarab God and Hazoret the Fervent and then play them on my own side, making them a liability for the other player.
