(NOTE: The deck is listed with cards I actually have. I have another list of this deck Competitive Captain Sisay (Unlimited) that has cards I can only dream of that ramps this one up to the max. I have also another list of this deck Competitive Captain Sisay (*Budget*) but with a budget of around $200 - still very competitive.

Not been updated for a long time... lots has happened - with the predicted banning of Paradox Engine, and the released sets and other Commander's that have overtaken the meta. But overall I keep tinkering with my faithful Captain Sisay and she never lets me down. Must admit I was tempted to switch to include Sisay, Weatherlight Captain as Commander for ONE card that I LOVE LOVE LOVE for Captain Sisay - Esika, God of the Tree   - what a damn shame it requires a commander with 5 colours!. Anywho... just a little update as I am too lazy to edit the main body :P )

~Introduction~

We have a brutal meta with serious top tier decks especially with Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, The Gitrog Monster, Arcum Dagsson, Zur the Enchanter, Thrasios, Triton Hero, and a virtually unstoppable Narset, Enlightened Master. This competitive tool-box Captain Sisay deck holds its own and in fact dominates.... and can generally win turn 3-4 with Paradox Engine.

~History~

This deck has massively evolved over time. It started as most Sisay decks do; mass amounts of legends and no real synergy, focus, adaptability and planning. I have moved from a hardcore all out aggressive play style to a more conservative play style that takes into account the meta. The latest configuration is focussed on control and adaptability. It can certainly win on turn 3-4, but with so much of my meta adapting to Paradox Engine and other combos, patience and countering their strategies is key. It certainly ensures exquisitely challenging games and less of the run of the mill constant turn 4 wins.

As new sets arrive, I assess their feasibility of what they can add to the deck.... but importantly adapting to the metas as new cards and combos arrive.

~The Deck~

This incarnation however has so much mana creation due to the many mana dorks and tricks they use, and especially to Selvala, Heart of the Wilds and Umbral Mantle, as well as the many untap land, and mana generation cards (Voyaging Satyr, Earthcraft, with that tutoring for the Wincon's of Walking Ballista, Staff of Domination, and Oketra the True is easily achievable, especially as Paradox Engine is being stifled more (or in future banned). Throne of the God-Pharaoh is excellent with the amount of interactions with 'tap creatures'. Also as I can pump out infinite creatures with Oketra the True, and if somehow I am prevented from an overwhelming attack of creatures, or for some reason they prevent 'damage', then the 'loss of life' at the end of turn is a sure fire winner. With testing it has proven itself very worthy with inclusion. Doesn't hurt that it is a searchable two drop CMC legend :)

Whilst combo's involving Paradox Engine is the usual go to wincon, I am finding this build is robust and reliable to win and shut down opponents... regardless of how they play. This incarnation is massive with control with my brutal meta guiding its evolution. It effectively shuts down the opponents with flashed in Containment Priest, Aven Mindcensor, and Hushwing Gryff. Also control includes Torpor Orb, Rest in Peace, Aura of Silence, Wheel of Sun and Moon, Solemnity, and with only having three cards that is effected, Gaddock Teeg is a killer. A true tool-box with multiple wincons, and can address threats and easily outlast, rebuild, and protect my board state until I find the win. Please understand that while I 'can' combo off on turn 3-4 if unchecked, it is becoming much harder, and therefore longer term game plans are required.

~Future~

Those of you who follow this deck's progression will see that I am forever tinkering with it to try and move with the meta, times, new sets and fun. But I am trying to fully foil it out and I have made up my mind I do not like the Kaladesh Inventions.... though foil judge Gaea's Cradle is my HUGE stumbling block.

With my meta, bounce is a killer, but there are also other cards rising up to address the Paradox Engine - Pithing Needle, Nevermore, Stony Silence, Phyrexian Revoker Etc ..... but it sure makes for a fun and dynamic gaming :)

~Final Thoughts~

Just for posterity's sake; I double sleeve my deck with Ultimate Guard Precise Fit Sleeves - Side entry, and use Matte Green Dragon Shield protective sleeves. I game at the Good Games Ipswich store Queensland Australia, and the boss there is a great guy called Allen Love.

And lastly. Thanks to 'PartyJ' and his Captain Sisay deck of 'Sisay has the answers | * Hibernation * | Primer' for inspiration and discussion.

(Can't believe I accidentally deleted this !!)

Over the last 8 weeks or so I have been grilling the deck. What is apparent is that I can not continue with the tribal theme as it interferes with progression in making a tight fluent deck when I limit myself to making it a Human tribe. Therefore the tribal theme is gone and only Two cards made the cut; the ever faithful 'Magus of the Candelabra' and ' Karametra's Acolyte'.

While the Tribal theme was blowing away the good folk at that tourneys, I was getting too many complaints, it really was untouchable. And the same deck was just losing the edge on the constant hate I get in the serious top tier hardcore tables on Wednesday nights :)

So there has been a bit of an overhaul to give the deck more stability, reliability, protection, more control, and even more aggression.

Firstly I put back in 'Sylvan Safekeeper' for that added protection (I was going to also add 'Crucible of Worlds', but it just didn't warrant it). I also added the new Amonkhet creature 'Prowling Serpopard' for that extra protection against countering my creatures - whether it is 'Sisay' herself, or 'Dosan'/'Grand Abolisher' to shut them down for good. I also added 'Aura Shards' as there is a lot of hate with Pithing Needle, Revoker, Nevermore, Stony Silence and more...

And speaking of which, as I have said my meta is brutal, so other added cards for control are graveyard hate; 'Rest in Peace', and 'Wheel of Sun and Moon'. I have also added more control for the Yisan type decks with 'Containment Priest' and of course 'Aven Mindcensor'. I have also finding I am relying more and more on 'Linvala' to keep the what seems to be essential activated abilities of opponents in check.

A creature I have added back is 'Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger'. Now there's a lot going on with this fella.... the obvious control of opponents, but I have also added some new tricks which utilises this guy to his optimal level..... and that is the other card 'Earthcraft'... HOLY heck it is a winner. I spawn so man creatures that they are now used to generate mana..... and yes, I have amended my lands to ensure I have enough basic lands.

Additions are also the two new legendary artifact monuments - 3 CMC drops that are medallions to make creatures cheaper, but also spawn extra creatures and make other creatures larger and trample .... excellent in making one creature HUGE for 'Selvala, Heart of the Wilds' mana ability :D And the new Throne of God - Pharoah card as it is only a 2 CMC cost and with 'Earthcraft' and the ease of which I can spawn creatures, its a sure fire wincon :)

The average CMC cost is 2.58. I have cut down on a lot of really cheap Legendary creatures that I found were wasting space and only good for resetting the 'Paradox Engine'. These included 'The Hope of Ghirapur', 'Oviya Parisha thingy', 'Mikaeus' and even 'Melira' was absconded to the sideboard. What I find is that I have to play smarter and really know my deck.... it's a challenge and fun :)

I am finding this incarnation and version of the deck far more robust in playing against the serious top tier rivals. I am getting a lot of hate but it is to be expected :)

Comments are welcome, but please realise this is a finely tuned deck that is competing with some of the very best decks out there that win regularly turn 3+ if not checked ;)
