Sideboard

Enchantment (1)

This is a more competitive deck list of my original deck Relentless Plague! If you are looking for a budget option this is not the deck list for you.

This deck list was essentially me making my original joke deck as competitive as I could make it without worrying about cost. I can say without a doubt that I'm thrilled with how the deck is performing! My sideboard is just some ideas that I'm playing with the idea of putting into my list.

The way to use this deck is pretty simple, we’re gonna go balls to the wall and hope everything works out. The name of the game with this deck is ‘we’re here for a fun time, not a long time.’ What this means is that we are usually going to try and pull a win off by turn 4-6, moving into late game for us is much more challenging. Although I would like to say that it is possible but it will require you to just sit at the table waiting patiently to nuke everybody with exsanguinate or torment, or being cruel and using contamination (which I highly recommend!). Ideally you want to ramp out thrumming stone (easily tutored off of our commander) with nykthos out on the field. Then ripple as many rats as you can, tap nykthos for a crap ton of mana and proceed to use exsanguinate, torment, tendrils, or even Gray Merchant of Asphodel for the win. If one of those gets countered all we have to do is wait one full board rotation to swing with our rats which pretty much kills anybody in the event that they don’t board wipe. If they do wipe the field, tutor out patriarchs bidding and try again. If they destroy thrumming stone before you can use it or counter it, search out fortuitous find to return it to your hand from the yard. In the event that it gets exiled we have to shift our wincon. Instead you can just play rats and beat people up, you can tutor out the infinite rat combo with marrow gnawer and BLANK which pairs really well with dictate of Erebos for a board wipe on your opponents (I’ve done this, usually they quit lol). You can go for a soft lock with contamination and beat people up, marrow gnawer makes keeping this out very easy. Or you can just play cabal coffers and maybe nykthos for any devotion you might have and just exsanguinate or torment for a bunch.

Again if you like what you see give me an upvote and I would love any and all suggestions!

Updates Add

After much play testing I’ve concluded that the number of relentless rats in our list needed to increase to prevent wiffing as much on thrumming stone. To do this Ultimate Price and Grave Pact were cut for two more Relentless Rats. Additionally Magus of the Coffers was caught for another amazing gridlock piece called Infernal Darkness. Lastly Hero’s Downfall was cut for Gravepurge which is an excellent way to get all of our rats back onto the field from our yard.
