A new era and new chances! —Dec. 26, 2015

Today I made some revisions based upon many playtests and input from dedicated players around here. All your comments are always appreciated!

Cards that have been taken out :

  • Indomitable Archangel : Shroud only works when metalcraft kicks in. A better replacement is available which also fits the tribal.

  • Extraplanar Lens : The saccing sometimes proved bad and it only affects my basic lands. Sometimes it just wasn't enough to turn the odds in my favor.

  • Cho-Manno's Blessing : I experienced that I could cut one protection spell. This one doesn't fit the theme and felt it was the least effective.

  • Etched Champion : Nothing special for this build. Since Indomitable Archangel is gone as well, I felt that one artifact down that doesn't suit the battleplan doesn't matter. It was in for the flavour anyway. Now I found much better utility options.

  • Spidersilk Net : I had some matchups where I ended up being owned by flying. But this equipment is just too circumstancial to deserve a permenent spot. I should aim more on my strong elements, rather than fix some weak spots that will always excist.

Cards added:

  • Leonin Abunas : A sweet protection creature for all artifact which doesn't need 3 or more artifacts to be present. For the amount of mana.

  • Caged Sun : Nice ramp which also adds a little extra especially for the cat tokens. Even late game it isn't a dead draw.

  • Profound Journey : A nice utility card which I had in mind for some while. I felt that this was the time to give a place for the next era for this deck. Curious how this card will 'feel' in this build...

  • Expedition Map : A land tutor in my meta doesn't hurt. A mana ramp like Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or a Homeward Path vs. blue control; the option to find them when needed is sweet.

  • Konda's Banner : Once upon a time it was here, then it was gone... Now I that I have a few more token boosters I felt that this card deserves a second chance....

A special thanks to NensouHiebara, BobFromAccounting, Daedalus19876, _SeriosSkies_ and electromancer. Your input was valuable and cards have been added since...

Eternal Dragon is a great utility creature. Early game, he's tutors for a Plains or Mistveil Plains. Late game, he's a self-recurring, fat flier that can hold Equipment if needed.

Relic Seeker is a good Equipment tutor.

Solemn Simulacrum is a great value card.

Batterskull is a great Equipment. Plays like a creature and offers a great boon. The best target for an early-game Stoneforge Mystic.

Fireshrieker offers double strike

Day of Judgment and Wrath of God are efficient creature sweepers. Generic sweepers are handy to have. Using too many alternative sweepers will often backfire.

Remember the Fallen is a great 2-for-1 recursion spell.

Path to Exile is one of White's best creature removal spells.

Return to Dust us a fantastic 2-for-1 artifact/enchantment removal spell.

Replace your Plains with Snow-Covered Plains so that other White decks don't bank off of your Extraplanar Lens.

Thespian's Stage is a great land clone. At worst, it copies a Basic when waiting for a worthy target.

Leonin Shikari - Instant speed equip, perfect with Puresteel Paladin, gives all your creatures instant speed removal protection with Lightning Greaves

Emeria Shepherd - regular recursion for all non-lands. Works very well with Myriad Landscape.

Flickerwisp - auto include for any mono white running Sun Titan

Trailblazer's Boots - Unblockable with the amount of non-basics in meta, even for mono coloured decks.

4 cards I think are definitely worth considering here.

1) Darksteel Mutation: Lets you enchant a utility commander and have them lose all abilities. Sure, they get a 0/1 indestructible chump blocker, but it's better than all that utility.

2) Nevermore: Deals with pesky commanders so you don't have to.

3) Runed Halo: Facing a deck that relies heavily on commander damage like Skullbriar, the Walking Grave, Keranos, God of Storms or Kresh the Bloodbraided? Boom, protection from that named card.

4) If you do go Snow-Covered Plains as NensouHiebara suggests (which you should), you can also add Scrying Sheets as a way to scry every turn and potentially land accelerate.

That's all the quick thoughts I have, you mind find more ideas on my Mono-white Odric deck here: The Night's Watch. It's soldier based instead of artifacts, but lots of useful utility creatures to take a look at.

I would suggest Phyrexian Rebirth / Wrath of God / Day of Judgment - clear the board in preparation for a shitton of cats.

Having played against the linked deck IRL, it's a brutally aggressive variation of Kemba voltron. Might be worth checking out:

Kemba is one of my favorite commanders, and I love seeing her built well. +1. Oh, one last thing; I may or may not have let the cats out. Sorry.

NensouHiebara : Thanks alot for all the great tips! Several of them I did feel they should have a spot in the deck right away, like Relic Seeker, Remember the Fallen, Path to Exile.

The snowcovered tip is very true, but I don't have them at the moment and for now I am the only one playing white in our group atm. So I feel safe for now :)

Eternal Dragon surely is on my wishlist :-)

What do you think of the tweaks I made so far? I also added some other stuff I felt was plausible, like Etched Champion, Jazal Goldmane and Grand Abolisher

Have you seen the new C15 spoilers yet? Blade of Selves seems like it could be fun in here. The other notable is Oreskos Explorer.

I love the deck idea! Good luck!

EddCrawley : Thanks for your suggestions. I did not add any equipment that has shroud, since I am informed that shroud also disadvantages you equipping a creature that has shroud. So when you move a Lightning Greaves to your commander, all equipment falls directly off. Or am I wrong?

PartyJ says... #10

BobFromAccounting : Nice tips! I did add Darksteel Mutation straight away! Adding Nevermore would seriously upset my EDH group, so I won't add it (yet) xD

See my previous post about shroud. Am I true that you are aware of?

Maringam : Especially the sweeper Phyrexian Rebirth seems like it could really do something extra in this build! I should try to get a copy :-)

ps: Having Crucible of Worlds on the battlefield and have Secluded Steppe in your graveyard means that you can buy as many cards as you have white mana available, right?

November 7, 2015 5:24 p.m.

Maringam says... #12

No - since cycling discards the card and crucible says play it.

(It goes to the battleground instead of your hand, so you can't cycle it again.)

November 7, 2015 5:30 p.m.

PartyJ. Shroud effects targeting of new spells/effects, but any auras and equipment already attached is safe.

Things id cut:

Avarice Amulet - you have no solid way to get it back to you after it leaves your control.

Things id add:

Elspeth, Knight-Errant - low drop, token producer. and if she isnt dealt with becomes a win con. Worse case scenario she grants flying so your important non-token dudes dont get touched on the swing in.

There are other things i personally dislike but they arent bad so its not worth mentioning. (Yay opinions!)

Looks like a really fun deck!
+1!

What Figag said: Blade of Selves for sure and maybe Oreskos Explorer (link)

Forgot to mention: Have you looked at Spear of Heliod? It won't generate any new cats, but the anthem pump is great, and it's a very effective rattlesnake.

speedreecer says... #17

not to many cats there..maybe throw in the cat sun zenith

electromancer says... #18

Check out Konda's Banner, it's perfect for this deck.

November 9, 2015 3:38 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #19

I'd re-add Avarice Amulet: since it's attached to your commander, and your commander never "dies", it stays under your control forever.

Sword of Light and Shadow's pretty good as well. The other two aren't really worth running (B&M and W&P).

I don't think that Blade of Selves fits here, honestly. It is actively bad on your commander, and not terrible on utility creatures like Stoneforge, but I still don't know if it's worth a slot. If you draw it in your opening hand without any utility creatures, it's a dead card. Plus it's $15, which is a little high for a card that won't be extremely good in the deck.

ToolmasterOfBrainerd : I do agree that Blade of Selves could be interesting, but only in multiplayer games. And at the moment I play alot of 1 vs 1.

_SeriosSkies_ : I did put it out of the deck, but then Daedalus19876 pointed out that your commander does not actually die. So Avarice Amulet wil not leave your battlefield. Understanding this made me very eager to put it back in :) Thanks to you both for the usefull thoughts!

clayperce : Spear of Heliod is nice, but I don't think that it could replace a card that is less valuable. For now I keep it in mind.

electromancer : Thanks for your comment! I did had this card Konda's Banner in my deck, but after a few games I felt it did not make a huge difference. But I am still doubting.... have it standby for a next update :)

Daedalus19876 : The sword has been added. I found a copy and am happy to include Sword of Light and Shadow in this build.

Daedalus19876, I just wanted to say thanks for pointing that out. I know Commanders don't hit the graveyard but I've always played destroy effects, lethal damage, 0 or less toughness, the Legend rule, deathtouch, sac' effects, etc. etc. etc. as "dies" ... thanks to you I finally looked up rule 700.4. Very cool!

December 9, 2015 6:21 p.m. Edited.

Daedalus19876 says... #22

Why are the fetch lands here, btw? Thinning is statistically AWFUL in commander, and you don't have any basic-typed dual-color lands since you're in mono-color.

Crucible of Worlds also seems pretty weak here...

December 9, 2015 7:19 p.m.

PartyJ says... #23

@ Daedalus19876 : I agree that Crucible of Worlds does not fit in the theme and adds little benefit. Together with the fetch lands I removed them from the deck.

I added more control styled cards instead.
