• Introduction:

The deck's theme:

We are the bearers of the Truth of Mekhane, who broke himself to save us from the flesh that hates. Let me tell you a story...

A tale of two brothers

Long Before time was time, long before the stars shined on the sky, long before people would listen to stories, there were two brothers...

They represented the opposite things of the world: one was industrious, hard working, calculating and cold. His name: Mekhane.

The other one was as wild as life itself, the source of insticts and ferocious, untamed emotions. His name: Yaldabaoth.

They knew nothing but each other, for the void was what birthed them.

And so they loved, in their own way, one another, with all their heart.

Yaldabaoth was a very playful brother. He loved creating beings of flesh, to Mekhane's amazement, who just could not believe how his beloved brother would waste his time with such petty things.

Mekhane, on the other hand, worked day and night on replicating himself, the only perfect thing he knew, to no avail. His brother Yaldabaoth would smile in bewilderment to how Mekhane tried to do such a complicated task, calling it impossible.

One day, while watching one of Yaldabaoth's creations, Mekhane had an idea:

  • Brother, I've had a revelation while watching your creation.

  • Yes, what is it, brother? Tell me!

  • We could work together on them. With your instincts, and my mind, we could create something worth watching.

And Yaldabaoth accepted. After all, he had always wanted his brother to partake in his activities. In fact, he was ecstasic when thinking how much fun they would have together.

And so life, as whole, was created.

At the beginning, Mekhane would only want to contribute with few, very niche aspects of life: this data sequence here, this association there.

Yaldabaoth wouldn't believe how with just a few touches by his brother their creations would move and act by theirselves!

Mekhane became more and more aware that this collaboration with his brother could become something far more greater than what he had anticipated.

He developed what he called "intelligence", a much more advanced concept to Yaldabaoth's instinctal configurations, and showed him with bewilderment how the beings could now take complex decisions and perform simple tasks without their direct control.

Yaldabaoth was so amused by his brother's contribution that he insisted him to develop it further.

And so, Mekhane stayed day and night awake working on a far superior intelligence. An intelligence so great that he used his very own projects about replicating himself to create it.

One night, Mekhane decided to implement it on a new being that was just created by his dear brother, without telling him, as a loving and caring surprise gift. He called the creation "Humankind".

But this gift had... Unforseen consequences.

Humankind was so advanced in Mekhane's ways that they recognized Yaldabaoth's part on their inception as "inferior", and despised it. The darkests and most shameful calculating secrets Mekhane had hid in his heart to not hurt his brothers feelings became public.

And, even worse, they started worshipping him.

When Yaldabaoth found out, his jealousy was inimaginable. The wilderness on his heart awoke, as strong as it was never before, and with it, Hate.

Pure, unadulterated hatred, that took its own twisted, fleshed form and started to destroy what he had been created with his brother, all their work.

For it did not matter to him anymore.

Mekhane could not allow this to happen.

After all, those creations were also part of him. He had used his replicas. They mattered to him. More than his beloved brother.

Mekhane was perfect after all.

So he did the only thing he could do to stop him.

Knowing that his brother was equally powerful, Mekhane was well aware he could not save his creations from destruction. But he could hold that destruction up. Perhaps indefinitively.

While humankind fought the Sarkic abominations that emanated from a distracted Yaldabaoth, Mekhane forged a plan.

The only thing that would prevent the hate that emanated from Yaldaboth was a prison.

But he needed more power than what he would be able to harness for the construction of such a powerful jail.

So he decided to use the most powerful catalist he knew.

Himself.

And so, on the Day Of Gifting, a year after the creation of the first human, Mekhane gave his own body to stop his brother from destroying everything.

He broke himself for us. So he became the Broken God. He sacrified himself for us to be.

However Yaldabaoth, to his very own surprise, had learnt something from his brother's foreseeing. Something not even Mekhane would have expected.

He hid some of his powerful and vicious blood in a shelter unknown to his brother. Enough to not be detected by Mekhane, and enough to corrupt humankind's minds and bodies.

This hatred given flesh would create Yaldabaoth's own Sarkic followers and, eventually, grow powerful enough to consume by itself.

And now, little ones, this is why, we, descendants of the first humans, seek the pieces of the broken god:

Because gods never really die.

If we manage to assemble the pieces back together, our saviour Mekhane will enlighten us with his presence once again.

And purge the world of Yaldabaoth's corruption once and for all, until his hatred and anger dry theirselves up and he can be freed again.

Always remember: Cast in the Design of God, We Faithful. Praise progress

  • The deck:

This deck is an esper artifacts deck, with the Church of the broken God as a main theme, and a lot of Tezzerets. We are a value deck that will try to grind to maximun utility each asset we can use, specially with our very flexible commander.

  • Why is card:Sydri, galvanic genious the commander of the deck?

She offers a lot of instant-time interaction with any artifacts, either ours or other player's. That makes her a very powerful payoff to all the mana rocks we run (as we can turn them into creatures anyways thanks to her), while also being a very impactful political tool. We also have several lockdown shenanigans, if we require to behave as a control deck, and furthermore, she's a perfect mekhanite scientist.

  • The deck's weaknesses:

Early aggresion is always though for combo and value decks, and this is no exception. We, however have a lot of lifegain too, thanks to our commander, so are a bit more resilient than the average, and will generally survive unless focused hard. We obviously suffer against artifact hate and will be hindered if our lifelink gets shut down, so beware. Things like Bane of Progress can really destroy all our work, so do not put all your assets at once on the battlefield.

  • The deck's strengths:

Artifacts , even including mana rocks, can act as finishers on this deck, the costlier the stronger, so do not worry about not drawing your finishers, as everything can be a finisher if you are willing to pay enough mana. We also excel at politics, as our commander can actually target other player's actifacts and equipments: turning equipment into artifacts can be extremely annoying, as they "fall off their hands", and nothing says "get screwed" like using a creatures only boardwipe and having the enemy turn all your mana rocks into creatures in response.

--2020 UPDATE-- I've dropped some win-more cards that felt unneded, like mirrorworks, clock of omens (there is no combo here, for instances), dreamstone hedron (too costly, while giving out colorless, not very good for this color intensive deck) and other underperforming cards, for a couple of artifact cost reducers (eterium sculptor and foundry inspector), and the thopter assembly + time sieve combo. The deck has several ways of actually searching for parts of the combo, such as tezzeret and the treasure mage&sphinx package for the assembly. Trinquet mage has also proven to be a very good card, so we have a 1cmc problem solvers package, with a ouple capsules and the anti graveyard spellbomb.
