Do you like rooting for the bad guy? Do you perversely hope that the shiny guy with the great smile gets his teeth punched in? If so, this is the deck for you. Flavor wise I wanted to bring the badasses out to play. That means lots of legendary stuff trying to work some synergy with each other. This is by no means a budget deck, (IF ONLY I COULD FIND MY Necropotence) so suggestions for awesome stuff are welcome. I plan to rotate a few things in and out as I play test it more and streamline some things.

This is my Kalitas/Eldrazi deck. Black can produce soooo much mana in pretty quick succession. I just figured with Kalitas being a traitor and all, it made sense to surround him with a few eldrazi.

Then I realized that Kalitas, Ulamog, Kozilek, and company were a lot like the Karate Kid. Their champion got beaten by a completely illegal face kick (just like in Battle for Zendikar) but you gotta admit, they are pretty dang powerful (it took how many planeswalkers to take them out???).

This deck is casual/competitive. I like Kalitas for the early game as he can steal some threats from opponents and if he dies, okay, I'll recast him when pumping out massive mana later.

As for suggestions I'm looking for?

  1. Anything to help synergize this deck or have it flow more smoothly.

  2. Additional Eldrazi or replacements for some of my more flavor/fun cards (lim dul, etc).

  3. Better spot removal or ways to protect my commander. I don't want "as many as I can fit in my deck" I prefer to have the best. I have a little time to order cards and have them delivered so fire away.

I am going to be playing a mono night with some friends where Elves, Soldiers/Angels, and Sea Creatures (G/W/U) will be bringing there best to take me out.

Well that was a success! This deck runs very well as built, but playing it against other people identified a few weak points:

  1. Board wipes. I need at least one in my starting hand. My early game is slooooow so I need a well-timed Damnation to slow things down and let me move my game along. Pestilence is by far the best removal I have but when one guy drops a Dissipation Field I wished I had kept my Decree of Pain in here.

  2. Spot removal: Using my planeswalkers works and using eldrazi works but dang it if I could use some early game spot removal that is cheeeeeeap. What I have now is flavorful, and thankfully

  3. Who to take out: I really love all the cards in here... they all do something and most of it is good. I could take some suggestions on what to pull out to streamline it.

So this is how the game play went:

Game 1: not enough black mana to do what I needed to do. Wouldn't have been a problem but I was playing a mono green elves and mono white soldiers that made their weenies big quick. Since a lot of my card draw also makes me lose life Moonlight Bargain I was stuck and quickly eliminated.

Game 2: Had a Damnation in my opening hand. Spent the first few turns mana ramping with my Burnished Hart while everyone else built up their board state. Cast the Damnation and reset things, then popped out kalitas and a Crypt Ghast. mana doubling is great and I was able to pop out Ugin and start mass removing board threats with his exile ability.

The mono blue player had a ton of "put back in your hand" but that was fine for me as I was casting Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and was able to bounce back pretty quickly as most of my mana ramp was land tutoring.

Between Ugin's exile ability, Kalitas' exile ability, and the eldrazi I kept dropping... the game went my way. One person rage scooped after used Pestilence to board wipe then swung at him with Ulamog causing him to sac lands. The other two quickly realized it was not going to go much better for them and after waiting a turn for an answer they conceded as well.

What I like:

I like that this deck has threats at every stage. Kalitas is a big threat early on and fairly cheap (turn two Dark Ritual) but without the sac engine in place causing others to sac too he is only a half threat. Late game I have a lot of fatties that are able to reap destruction wholesale. I ended up dumping a bunch of creatures into my graveyard at one point to Living Death which was very enjoyable.

Fun deck to play, could definitely be streamlined so I'll probably work on that a little then bling it out.
