Description

Inspired by my pre-released Sealed deck, I wanted to expand on my Rakdos guild deck and hit the ground running with creatures and spells that will guarantee you'll exponentially lose life each turn. I think the criticized Vexing Devil has a home here, especially pairing with Rakdos, Lord of Riots if the opponent decides to lose life. Rakdos Cackler s and Lightning Mauler s set the stage and by turn 3 I'll either have creatures to Unleash, Deathtouch and/or Haste threats, or some sort of removal spell like Searing Spear or late-game Mizzium Mortars to make way for my creatures. Chandra, the Firebrand can ping creatures or the opponent to help cast Rakdos, Lord of Riots , or she can copy burn spells for a ton of damage ( like Bonfire of the Damned ).

Updates

Cacklers it is — Nov. 14, 2012

I gave in. I playtested with a pair of Rakdos Cackler s and they're a nice alternative. Having more creatures in general also helped Hellrider out in dealing guaranteed damage if they all attack together. I still want a pair of Rakdos, Lord of Riots even though his ability to make creatures cheaper is basically ignored. I could possibly take out a Rakdos Shred-Freak for a Chaos Imps or Carnival Hellsteed to make that worth it; I can playtest that. RDW: RakDos Wins.

More Haste — Nov. 12, 2012

Added a pair of Lightning Mauler s to slap Haste onto my bigger creatures like the Hellhole Flailer , Vampire Nighthawk and Rakdos, Lord of Riots . If my creatures don't already have Haste, the Maulers will give it to them. Playtesting it soon to see if this is a good plan. Got rid of the Traitorous Blood /Fling combo to make way for Chandra, the Firebrand for a better chance to cast Rakdos and copy burn spells. Feels like a good idea since I have Flames of the Firebrand .

if you want Rakdos, Lord of Riots to be at his best, its probably good to have some high costing creatures in here that you normally wouldn't get out quick enough without him, stuff like Chaos Imps or Carnival Hellsteed

I like the deck and your love for Rakdos, Lord of Riots :) The deck looks fun to play but it doesn't seem as though you are getting much use of his last ability. If you want some inspiration i have had good results with Lord Rakdos in my undying deck Undying Hate its fun playing Flayer of the Hatebound for a single red

oh and +1 from me

yea i've been thinking about trying to make Rakdos' ability more useful with Chaos Imps and Carnival Hellsteed in mind specifically! i can possibly take out a Rakdos Shred-Freak for one of those more expensive creatures.

I like the idea of adding those bigger creatures to make the most of Rakdos, Lord of Riots but you could play it so much faster if you kept the mana curve at four. Four mana for a 6/6 is still great even without his last ability, plus you could use it for your Desecration Demon s right after Rakdos, especially if you have two blacks and two dual lands out also. You have the potential to have three 6/6's with flying out on turn five.

yea i agree, if this deck was more about control then i would have included the more expensive creatures to use Rakdos, Lord of Riots' ability, but since he's essentially a big beater its not totally necessary.

Take out Rakdos, go down to 60 cards, use 4 Blood Crypt s, take out Chandra, add 2 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch .

Fixed.

He already has four Blood Crypt s and his deck is sixty, but instead of adding Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch add another Lightning Mauler . I really think he should keep Rakdos, Lord of Riots .

zandl, i actually feel like Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch is wasted here, since there aren't enough Unleash creatures involved to make her ability truly worth it. and RedShadows, glad to see there is still some love for Rakdos, Lord of Riots . i have a lone Master of Cruelties i'm not using but i'm not sure it lends itself well to this deck.. i think i should just stick with cheap aggressive creatures and just hit the ground running.

Rakdos is slow as hell, though. Would you rather be casting Exava and hitting your opponent for an extra four damage, or hitting for four less damage and casting tubby? And talk about wasted abilities...

zandl i get Rakdos out pretty early, to be honest. Exava isn't worth it in this deck, her ability would be just as wasted.

Yeah. But she's a 4/4 First Strike Haste.
