Card advantage and stacking damage. The main idea is to either beat down with big flyers or win the damage race that I set up with exponential life loss.
Some interesting interactions:
+ + = Infinite damage.
+ + = Infinite damage.
+ = Insta-death for an opponent with an even number life total.
+ = Insta-death for the enchanted player.
Platinum Emperion + shared life loss spells = One sidedness.
Flayer of the Hatebound + Undying and Unearth creatures = Effect trigger.
Here's my Lyzolda deck if you are interested in potentially finding new cards: MagicalHacker - Lyzolda, the Blood Witch
I see that you include things like Blood Artist , Deathgreeter and Falkenrath Noble . I actually ran these guys but took them out once the deck started using several cards that stop everyone from gaining life in the first place.
I also noticed that you don't run any instants or sorceries. Any particular reason why?
No problem :)
I think that they are beautiful against anyone who thinks board wiping is a good idea. Additionally, they can pack a huge punch, so they are not to be underestimated. Most people that I know don't lifegain except with Oloro, Ageless Ascetic , but I'm working more off of drawing a ton of cards by sacrificing some black creature tokens. The rest usually attack.
As you probably know, EDH is a game of big effects, so I chose cards that continually make tokens rather than instatns and sorceries that do that. This applies to really any effect in EDH. If you can choose a repeatable card over a one-time-effect card, it's probably better. (There are exceptions, like couterspells, since there are 0 good coutnerspell permanents imo.) On top of that, the effect keeps going UNTIL it gets removed. The instant/sorcery gets "removed" right after it's done. Those are kind of similar reasons, but I hope I elaborated my thinking process between the two.
That sounds good and yes, that's the same idea. Also, I want to say this: In EDH, 2 damage is not much at all (this is why I say Mogis, God of Slaughter isn't a good creature to use as a commander). However, drawing cards is actually stronger in this format. Because of that, I've built around making black tokens, especially black and red ones. There should be plenty of black token producers in that link. :)
I'll take another look and keep that in mind!
I think I'm challenging myself to make the deck a "damage race" "group slug" build, so that's why I'm including things like Havoc Festival and Wound Reflection , etc. I like having black creatures to sacrifice because I can re-use them by Dredging them up with sorceries/instants, and I like having red creature tokens to throw away for damage (starting out for 2 damage, but hopefully for more than that once I get some enchantments out).
If that's the case, I'd say that Heartless Hidetsugu , Wound Reflection , Gratuitous Violence , Furnace of Rath , and Dictate of the Twin Gods are a great package for you (not to mention a few combos there).
I'm aware of the Havoc Festival + Wound Reflection combo. I believe that's an insta-kill if they have an even number life value. I've also included Curse of Bloodletting since I think its easier to cast compared to Gratuitous Violence . I'm also trying to avoid cards like Furnace of Rath since the opponent could use its effect to harm me as much as I harm them.
I recently added a few new cards that produce zombie creature tokens, so I'm leaning more towards Lyzolda card draw effect. The deck seems to be more of a reanimator deck with the incremental lifeloss sub theme. Still haven't seen Heartless Hidetsugu in action yet but I"m looking forward to it. Thinking about adding Anger to the deck... I can use Buried Alive or Faithless Looting if Anger is in my hand to dump it into the graveyard... then cards that come in with tap effect can do their stuff right away.
