Maybeboard

A janky deck that I thought of making after seeing Cavalcade of Calamity . It is based on aggressive creatures with 1 power, pretty simple (and dumb, in a way). Also, I tried to make it pretty cheap, but included upgrades in the maybeboard, and I only used cards that will persist after the standard rotation in september/2019.

Feedback is very welcome!

This deck works like this:

Creatures

  • Grim Initiate and Scorch Spitter are great one-drops: the first one will leave behind a 1/1, while the other one pings 1 whenever it attacks, and is a elemental as well.
  • For two-drops, we have Unchained Berserker, Immolation Shaman, Tibalt's Rager, and Thunderkin Awakener. The first one is a nice creature overall, since it triggers Cavalcade of Calamity, but also gains +2/+0 when attacking. Immolation Shaman is nothing awesome, but it is kinda annoying, has 3 resistance, and later in the game we can dump mana on him to get some damage through. Tibalt's Rager isn't great as well, but we can dump mana on him as well later in the game. Thunderkin Awakener is a bit on the expensive side, but it is worth it in my opinion! It allows us to get some small creatures back, making we deal more damage, trigger Cavalcade of Calamity more times, and even abuse some ETB effects with some luck.
  • For the three-mana slot, we have no creatures. The closest thing should be Goblin Gathering, which I'll talk more about later.
  • For four manas, there's Scampering Scorcher. Casting it this way isn't great, but it can work. Usually you will want to get it in the battlefield using Thunderkin Awakener.

Sorceries and Instants

  • Infuriate: Almost as good as Gigantic Growth, helps our creatures survive and deal more damage. Using Sure Strike instead might work fine as well, despite costing 1 more.
  • Shock: Versatile card, helps on removing some enemy creatures or pushing more damage.
  • Goblin Gathering: initially it isn't very good, since we are paying 3 manas for 2 1/1, but later in the game it gets better. More importantly, it acts as fuel to Honor the God-Pharaoh.
  • Honor the God-Pharaoh: combos really well with Goblin Gathering and Scampering Scorcher. In the worst case scenario, we get a 1/1 and some new cards in our hand. and Tibalt, Rakish Instigator. : this way, we can extract more value from casting Goblin Gathering faster, and can get some better cards in our hands. This sorcery also combos really well with another of our spells. Finally, Tibalt, Rakish Instigator helps dealing with opponents gaining life, which is a problem for aggro decks. It also gives us the option to create some 1/1s, that help on triggering our enchantment, and getting some more damage through.

  • Don't be afraid to throw away some Goblin Gathering and Scampering Scorcher while using Honor the God-Pharaoh, since those cards work nice from the graveyard;

  • Using Thunderkin Awakener + Scampering Scorcher is pretty good.
