I would probably suggest finding a place for 4 Lightning Bolt. You could probably take out Stoke the Flames and Lightning Strike for it. If your looking for big beat down style creatures that return from the graveyard I would probably have to suggest Demigod of Revenge.

This seems to be 2 decks. A midrange and an aggro deck, but without a clear plan to be which.

not sure what Athreos, God of Passage is doing here.

Don't get me wrong I love the card, but you only have 1 creature with a CMC of 3 or less in this deck. so unless it's in there as a indestructible 5/4 when you reach devotion, I don't see the point in having it in there; Especially as a single card.N

@drakendark I am confused by your comment. How does Athreos care about a creatures casting cost?

@Rambulance Athreos, God of Passage is a legendary enchantment creature god, that is only a 5/4 creature if you own permanents of black or white mana symbols (aka devotion) that's total is equal to or greater then 7

It's static ability whether or not it is a creature is whenever a creature you control with converted mana cost 3 or less enters the graveyard, return that creature card to your hand instead, unless a opponent pays 3 life. The deck only have 1 creature that this is useful for.

and i don't see the devotion quota happening anytime soon in this deck, not to mention and it's only running a single copy.

drakendark, Athreos, God of Passage doesn't say anything about converted mana cost of 3 or less. Check the card again, it's just whenever a creature I own dies.

oops, I don't know why I was thinking that, perhaps I saw the number 3 and was confusing it with another card.

Well, either way I don't see the point in having it in the deck as a single card and the other creature cards don't really benefit from it except for the butcher

I'm interested in what you're sacrificing to Butcher of the Horde.

You really should replace Lightning Strike with Lightning Bolt. Bolt is strictly better in every possible way. If its a matter of money, Lightning Bolt is literally about $2.50. There really shouldn't be any reason to run Lightning Strike over Lightning Bolt.

Just forgot to update it. Thanks, MADMatt7777!

Mostly Master of the Feast once his draw disadvantage starts to toll me too much, but that's why I'm only running two. Also one of my favorite card arts haha, but definitely a weak link.

Abyssal Persecutor is a big demon and you can sac it to Butcher or Terminate or Dreadbore it when it has done its job.

Cut Howler, replace with more Athreos. Athreos in a deck where you can rely on things being removed is nice, it forces them to make one of two awful choices.

Bloodstained Mire can fetch a Sacred Foundry since it is a mountain and a plains. That should help you with the manabase so you don't have to cut white (Boros Charm is really powerful as all its modes are useful in a deck like this). You could also look into Arid Mesa or Marsh Flats but they're kinda pricey. Add in a couple Foundries and you should be fine since you never need more than one . I also like Blood Crypt over Dragonskull Summit since it can be fetched with Bloodstained Mire. Mana Confluence another way to mana-fix. Cool deck though, +1

I'm iffy on the Master of the Feast because he gives your opponent card advantage, something that all decks can benefit from. Perhaps replace him with another Demigod of Revenge and some more removal/ hand disruption.

Fulminator Mage is nasty sick with Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip, play lili with the mage out, you get an insta flip. also Thoughtseize instead of Duress. Both of these cards are kinda pricey though, so it's up to you.

I'm not really sure if Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is a good option here. while you do have good devotion off of the Demigod of Revenge I don't see what you need the copious mana for. (and the colorless manta it makes normally will only hurt your fixing.)

Running Fling in this deck might be interesting. Good interaction with a lot of cards in the dec: Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip, Athreos, God of Passage, Kolaghan's Command, Whip of Erebos, and Demigod of Revenge. You might consider replacing the main board Bile Blight with it (unless your friends often play token decks).

Erebos, God of the Dead is interesting in the deck. I'm wondering if you have any problems with card draw? it seems like you could take him out for something more useful to you? He does have good flavor in the deck though.

Another interesting addition you might consider would be Temur Battle Rage. Very good interaction with Master of Cruelties if you have someone out to trigger the secondary effect. but also good with any of your big flying demons.

I like the "recent". WoTC always likes to phase out one awesome card at the same time they bring in a card that would compliment it.

Very small examples:
Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver + Oblivion Sower control.

Burning Earth vs the entire Tri-Color wedge block of Tarkir.

Door of Destinies - All the flipping goblins lately. Soon to be good with Allies and possibly Eldrazi.

So once rotation happens and BFZ is in standard what will be available? I'll start designing a deck for that. I presume the format your talking about is really the old "Extended" which encompass the last 4 blocks? This would mean once BFZ comes out that Ravnica, Theros, Tarkir and BFZ blocks, plus any core sets between them and origins will be correct yeah?

August 23, 2015 11:41 p.m.

kengiczar, we'll definitely keep up with BFZ since I'm sure it'll have some awesome cards with beautiful arts!

Recent is because we've always been in standard, but now our collections have gone a few years out and we don't want those cards just sitting in a closet collecting dust. We never go to FnMs really, but we're all competitive, so we like to call it competitive casual haha

Errr... I see no effective way of you getting rid of your Abyssal Persecutor? Maybe a sac outlet?
