Captain Ramirez

Commander / EDH

docshadow13

United under the Black Flag, This crew of cutthroats, thieves and brigands have made their way from plane to plane in search of treasure. What they seek may not always be tangible, so to steal other valuable things like ideas, abilities, and memories, they have bound the horrors of the deep into their service. If such valuables still lay out of their reach, they are simply erased from existence, as their owners probably weren't using them to the fullest anyway.

Edit: Updated to reflect the current decklist, maybeboard is for things I still need to finish the deck.

The deck has a tendency to be a bit mana light, I will make adjustments to correct this eventually. While playing, if the deck is working effectively, it can preemptively remove all major threats from a deck before they see play, and take control of the ones that have been played already. I've essentially given up on making it a Pirate Tribal EDH, and instead made it the thief of combo pieces and good cards. so in practice, it's still a pirate deck.

Edit 2017: The deck is essentially finished at this stage. It still has a bit of a mana consistency issue, but that might just be inherent to my shuffling and luck. I have noticed through play that the deck is weaker with more players, and the balance point for it still being fun to play against is about 4-5 players. The key synergy to note is the interaction between Ray of Command and Conjurer's Closet. Ray of Command and other temporary steal effects can be made permanent by flashing out the stolen creature. This becomes especially potent with other stealing creatures, say Sower of Temptation, and a game that stretches on in turns. As far as the original goal of stealing someone else's wincon and using it, well, it mostly just comes down to knowing what to take and who you are playing against.

Side note: Wizards prints the first new Pirate in years, and as a legendary even, and it's mono-red...I am disappointed beyond words.

Why Wizards, why?
