Welcome to Calling All Legends !

You are looking at a Selesnya, tutor-goodstuff deck. Its commander, Captain Sisay , is a 2/2 legendary human soldier with 'Tap: Search your library for a legendary card, reveal that card, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.’.

There are so many great, legendary creatures (permanents) with great, utilitarian abilities. Especially when combined they can help us create a rock-solid board-state. Enabling us to tutor for the needed pieces, feels close to cheating. Especially when the order in which we do so, makes it very hard for our opposition to stop us. Do not get us wrong though, this deck is not meant to be invincible and there are definitely ways to inhibit its strengths greatly. Nevertheless, it has been great fun to pick from our collection those cards that enhance each other to the max. So blow those hunting horns! Beat the drums of war! Sound the call of clear trumpets! It is time for the legends to come out of the woodwork and destroy our enemies. We have a nice band of them to play around with! Mana dorks, draw enablers, control options, granters of life, protectors and re-animators … it's all there, waiting for our summoning to battle!

We greatly appreciate feedback to any of our decks, including this one. Before you give any however, please take note of the following:

  1. Having fun at MTG, is more important to us than winning games. We want our opponents to have a fun time playing against us too. That makes it more likely people will want to play against us again. This attitude is reflected in the way in which we build decks. They do not need to be invincible; not even competitive. We are ok with decks containing infinite combos though, as they can produce some hilarious results. So well done if you can pull one off; especially if it is original.
  2. We no longer buy cards, but in cases that we feel a card really adds to our collection, we still trade them. This means that whenever you are suggesting a card we do not own, chances are slim it is going to end up in our deck. Please do not take this personally. Also, please do not let this stop you from making suggestions. Suggestions that do not make it into this deck, will still be mentioned on this page and might be used by others.
  3. Please do not forget to include the card(s) you would remove to make room for your recommended card(s).
  4. Please do not recommend any cards with infect or cards whose sole purpose is to destroy basic lands (non-basic lands are fair game). Our playgroup has banned them.

With that being said, thank you for all your support and if you should decide to use our ideas, have lots of fun with them.

White and green are excellent protection/bolstering colors that can strengthen each other. This deck’s permanents are therefore mostly focused on being good at this. With enough of them online, it is possible to create an almost impenetrable barrier of awesomeness. Since Sisay is able to tutor for each of them, it is possible to make it very hard for our opponents to counter our strategy. However, Sisay’s presence on the board for this is quite important, so if someone manages to aikido her/keep her away from the battlefield entirely, this strategy basically falters. In order to carry out this strategy, I would suggest the following order of play:

Start by ramping (obviously). We want Sisay to hit the table fast, so first pour anything onto the field that makes this happen quicker, like Weathered Wayfarer , Birds of Paradise , Somberwald Sage , Exploration , Nature's Lore , Rampant Growth , Mox Amber or Sol Ring . Also, if at all possible, get Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots fast and equip them to Sisay.

Now summon Sisay and start tutoring for cool stuff. No matter what opponents we're facing, we'd suggest to always tutor the following legendary permanents first (the order of tutoring and casting DOES depend a bit on what we’re facing though):

  • Urza's Ruinous Blast : this recently came out and would be pretty perfect in here, but we have not managed to acquire one yet.
  • Reya Dawnbringer : good creature and nice recursion, but the deck contains much more efficient, cheap ways to recur permanents.
  • Hokori, Dust Drinker : only useful in very few situations.
