With Dragons Maze rounding out the set and some of the cards that came with it, this deck has evolved once again, back to its Golgari roots. Haste, Scavenge and Undying are what allow this deck to function at a pace that can be hard to match.

#3 in tournament @ Goodsell Collectables — May 10, 2013

Only a 3 round night and I went 2-1 (4-2)

Round 1: I faced a B/W exalted deck running 3 Sublime Archangels as its main bombs.

game 1 my opponent got land screwed and it was a lopsided win for me. game 2 was much more challenging but still a victory.

I was able to get out Strangleroot Geists and Dreg Manglers for some early damage, Vampire Nighthawk made an appearance turn 4 with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord joining him round 5. A Deadbridge Chant turn 6 gave me the creatures I needed (2 dreg manglers) to start scavenging onto my nighthawk and getting free creatures. A flung nighthawk for 8 damage courtesy of Jarad is what won me the round when I couldn't attack due to 2 Sublime Archangels and a knight of justice.

Round 2: I faced another golgari deck, this one using Blood Artists and Altar's Reap to make use of his undying creatures. This was a 2-0 loss for me as his undying creatures loved my Desecration Demon and his Deathrite Shamans made sure I couldn't make use of my graveyard as I need to.

Round 3, Game 1: An interesting matchup against a G/W/R deck using Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip and Garuuk, wild hunter. I was once again able to make use of the strangleroot geists for early damage and was able to get my Thragtusk + Conjurer's Closet combo rolling on turn 6 which gave me life gain and more beast tokens then I knew what to do with. When the tusk was finally "dealt with" thanks to a Warleader's Helix, an Undying Evil made sure the combo was still rolling. Eventually the tusk and his beasts overwhelmed my opponent and it was 1-0 for me.

Game 2: I was able to get out 3 Strangleroot Geists by turn 4, a Vampire Nighthawk round 5 and a Desecration Demon turn 6. I felt pretty safe at this point. Garuuk had been on the field a few turs by this point and had been adding beasts to my opponents board each turn, so I was not in any hurry to continue attacking, I had managed however to leave my opponent at 5 life and was begging for a way. On my opponents eighth turn garruk ultimates and there are 6 additional 6/6 wurms on the field now, my opponent swings for 10 and since I have 34 health at this point I take it. Turn 9 Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord is in my GY, my vampire nighthawk is a 5/5 and I have 9 land. I sac a forest and a swamp, bring Jarad to my hand, pay 4 to put Jarad on the field and pay 3 to fling my Nighthawk for 5 direct damage for the win.

I only placed 3rd but I had a lot of fun doing it, and also figured out some changes I want to make to the deck. We'll see how it does next week
