BW ZOMBIES IN MODERN?!?!

A BW zombie modern deck. The reason I chose BW is it has several advantages over other color combinations. Its advantage over mono-B is the addition of several white zombies, both old and new, better sideboard options (except for Rest in Peace. We have some graveyard shenanigans of our own), along with Path to Exile. Next, there were BG and abzan zombies. The advantage of those is Collected Company . It was also the only major green card that I really wanted, so I scrapped that. I don't want to be splashing green for company, Lotleth Troll and Putrid Leech . And that is how I ended up on BW.

2nd note: I will list each interaction only with the cards listed before said card. Example: Cryptbreaker interacts with Gravecrawler in a way that gravecrawler can be discarded to cryptbreaker. Also you can tap summoning sick gravecrawlers to draw cards since they cannot block. I will list these interactions in the gravecrawler slot since that one comes after cryptbreaker.

The What? and the Why? Show

One-Drops Show

Cryptbreaker- One of the top-3 best zombies (in my humble opinion). It's pretty much the zombie-version of a 1-mana planeswalker. It makes bodies and draws you cards. Deathrite Shaman was banned because of all it could do, and this is the zombie version of that. You will usually give up 2-4 points of damage in order to draw a card.

Gravecrawler - Another one of my top-3 best zombies. This guy had to be nerfed twice (Bloodsoaked Champion + Dread Wanderer ) before he could appear in today's standard. A 1-mana 2/1 that can be brought back for just B is pretty decent, in case you didn't know. You usually want to discard this to your Cryptbreaker so you will then be able to cast this from your graveyard, providing you with 2 bodies instead of 1.

Fatal Push + Path to Exile - The best pieces of removal in modern in their respective colors.

Two-drops Show

Relentless Dead- Does some pretty crazy stuff with his death triggers. The way one can stack them can yield Unexpected Results. Its only real interaction with previous cards is being Fatal Pushed in order to bring something else back from the graveyard.

Tidehollow Sculler- Never knew this guy was a zombie. My friend plays it in his BW-tokens deck, so I'm pretty surprised that I didn't find out earlier. It's hand destruction on a stick, not much else to say. It's your key against combo. They way he's worded, you can Fatal Push this guy with the ETB trigger still on the stack. It's a Fiend Hunter + Oblivion Ring sort of deal: You can have the exiled card (which there is none of) return to hand and then have the etb trigger go off, permanently exiling a card. Not sure why you would want to do this, but modern is a crazy place. There's probably a game where this will be relevant. Be careful when bringing this back with Relentless Dead. If both die at the same time, you can target the sculler with the "return zombie to battlefield trigger" since it'll be in the graveyard. If on mtgo or similar, make sure the return-card trigger resolves first. One of my friends did it the other way around when the opponent had no cards in hand, meaning he got to exile nothing while his opponent got a card back. DON'T PUNT!

Wayward Servant- This guy is hilarious in multiples. Life-gain that will give your opponent headaches. No real interactions with previous cards. It's interesting to note that since it's life-loss, it can get past fog effects.

Binding Mummy- This guy really surprised me. Since modern usually has few creatures on the board, mummy allows us to go over the top without any actual fliers. A cute little interaction is this guy and Cryptbreaker. You can use cb's 1st ability on an opponent's turn in order to create a "soft lock", which would prevent one of your opponent's creatures from attacking for that turn.
