Changes —March 21, 2012

Looking at limited sample playing size (1 tourney and about 10-15 games playing with regulars of various decks) It became abundantly clear that the deck has merit. However, having only 4 cards in at the 1 drop needed to be addressed. I've decided to remedy this by adding 3 Doomed Travellers and evening it out with COPS at 3x as well. So I am now at 6 creatures at the one drop. I was running 2x Doom Blade, but at a very busy 2 CMC spot. By adding tragic slip I now have an answer to a Turn 1 Delver with a 1 mana cost spell. (Especially useful if I lose the roll or win Game 1 or miss 1 of my 6 one mana creatures)

I've kept 1x Evolving Wilds in case I ever need to fetch a Black Mana, but am considering replacing it with a Shimmering Grotto as I am minus 2 lands due to Evolving. (1 for the card plus 1 card taken out)

I made these changes because I noted a deficiency at Turn 1. I think this was an easy fix that not only does not harm the deck, but vastly improves it.

I also took away 1x Hero (2 remaining) and added 1x Grand Abolisher. This is the only play test I have in the deck right now, but his abilities are pretty amazing. He may make a future appearance in the side board. For now I'm seeing what he can do when he does pop up.

As for side boarding, almost every game 2 I am removing 2x Sorin for something in my sideboard. He's great Game 1 if I get him out, but there are things I would rather do if I miss my win condition from turns 4 to 6 then play a Sorin.

I recently found out that adding Doomed Traveler in aswell is very good, I see youve added in Elite inquisitor at most i would only SB the card unless your meta is just zombie/wolf/vampire decks. I have to mention though that the way Token decks win is having all those anthems out if i were you i would put those 2 honor of the pure back in, and maybe SB one out if need be.

I have put in those Doomed Travelers as of last night and taken out 1 sorin, 1 oblivion ring, and 2 increasing devotion. Im still trying to find a way to keep increasing devotion in the deck because it can give you a big turn around late game.

Like to see your trying to make your own variation though

d2r2b is right, but you dont need that many buffs, think of it like this, you swing 4 tokens with an intangible virtue on the field, so they are all 2/2 at least not including maybe one honor or a sorin emblem, and lets say 2 are spirits and 2 are humans so when they put up their blockers to get your humans out of the way so they take less damage, you activate your vault of the archangel, that way you gain at least 8 life back and you kill anything that is blocking your humans unless they are indestructible, so its a win no matter what because you deal more significant damage and take out their big creatures

I think a compromise is in place, I've brought in the Grand Abolisher as a 1x and bumped up the Honour 1x to 3x. With some more playing, eventually I will discover what works best. Thanks for the info and keep it coming!

I will report back with my thoughts as well.

oh, my bad i thought you already had at least 2 honors in your deck, then yeah maybe go to 2 honors and 2 abolishers that way you can get a better chance at having the abolisher see play, and you still get the honor buff.

oh and what happened to your mirran crusader, they are pretty good, especially in this kind of deck, just thin a 3/3 mirran which swings for 6 baasically, and has pro black/green which is what most decks are in standard, and good job moving the inquisitors to side board, that way if you play a vamp, were, zombie deck you can have a prefect sideboard

Doh, I had it at 2x, I meant I increased it 1x to a total of 3x. I am subbing a creature in and out every time I go play, yesterday I had 2x Inquisitors and 2x Crusader. Now I have 2x Doomed and 1x Abolisher and 1x Honour (total of 3 Honour)

I played today at the Standard tourney at my LGS and went 3-1. I had it with 2x Elite Inquisitor and 2x Honour (different then what I just changed it to) I lost round 2 to a Rogue Elf deck. I'm new to most Standard Competitive and developing competitive decks so I knew absolutely nothing about this Rogue Elf deck. Won game 1 but he was able to get off his win conditions game 2 and 3. His tourney total was 1-3, but I did have tons of fun playing and that's all I'm really after at this point!

yeah, your deck seems to work cause thats about as good as i do, so it works definitely, your biggest problem though will be wolf run and trample decks because your creatures wont have the toughness to block all the trample

Yeah, I have considered this, that's why if I see my LGS meta going towards this, I have created Sam Black's Delver Spirit deck 1:1. (The one Jon Finkel used in Honolulu).

I will be playing Standard alternating between the two.

This deck doesnt do bad against wolf run, its fast and has fliers. Only problem ivr had is inkmoth nexus. So i have a couple tragic slip and 2 curse of deaths hold in SB
