burn, mana, burn again

To be clear, I do not think mono-red can every be competitive in a one on one setting. This is especially true for Neheb, the Eternal whose mana generation is directly proportional to the number of opponents you have and I designed this deck to work better in a group setting. The more opponents, the better because this deck does have a higher mana curve than a normal, more competitive edh deck.

The basic setup is to try and get Neheb, the Eternal out as fast as mono-red will allow. And what I can afford/already have in terms of mana rocks. I had snagged Mana Crypt , Chrome Mox , and Mox Opal on their cheaper ends. Ruby Medallion cause this is a mono red deck. Then of course the mandatory Sol Ring . Then you have the mana doublers Extraplanar Lens , Gauntlet of Power , and Caged Sun which we want for all the X spells in the deck.

Draw spells is red weakest point in my opinion so we have all the good draw cards plus some. Wheel of Fortune I got when it was $15 thank the good God above lol. Knollspine Dragon is a true treasure in this deck drawing about 10 cards whenever I play it. Dragon Mage is Wheel of Fortune on a stick. Then we have Molten Psyche Magus of the Wheel , and Tower of Fortunes . Tower is nice for draw when I have excess mana to dump into it which is why it made the list. Then I have the cards that provide Tormenting Voice type draw.

Repercussion is the bane of any token deck because of our X spells and Blood Moon belongs in every mono red deck. Pyrohemia is great value because of Neheb's toughness and a great mana return when we have more than one opponent. Aggravated Assault is infinite combat steps with Neheb if he provides enough post combat mana.

The key is to keep Neheb on the board so we can continue getting mana from him. Darksteel Plate and Hammer of Nazahn are here to protect him from our own board wipe with protection from red or indestructibility. The best cards to get mana from Neheb in this deck in my opinion are Price of Progress and Flame Rift for their initial cost and their return.

Recently added land destruction to try to compete with my growing competitive meta. See the July 5th 2018 update. Will adjust accordingly but the plan is to get neheb into play then destroy lands so I can still get mana off of the general.

So basically it goes like this:

  1. Play Neheb
  2. Get mana
  3. Play your hand with said mana
  4. Play a wheel effect or draw spell
  5. Repeat until everyone is dead
