Baller on a budget?
Need something moderately competitive, but don't have 600+ dollars to spend?
Well, here is the SUPER budget friendly hard hitting deck of your dreams.
Total cost with sideboard - 81-85 bucks
Unfortunately, you just can't really play a 3-color deck in modern without doing damage to yourself.. so, to get around this there is a lot of subtle lifegain built into this deck brew.
Kor Firewalker - this guy rewards you for playing red spells, and there are a few. He is also rocking protection from red, which makes him pretty good in matchups against other burn decks.
Soul Warden - though she is small, her ability is mighty. She gives you a life buff for every creature entering the battlefield. In this deck, with lingering souls and Rose of the Hobgoblins, she can really make a difference as the game progresses.
Lightning Helix - a lightning bolt and lifegain combo for
This brew also utilizes a very underrated card, Bump in the Night. Essentially a black lightning bolt. It also runs black to pay the flashback cost of lingering souls.
Guttersnipe might not be the best card, but it gives you some added damage for playing instants and sorceries, which is the game winning strategy.
Rakdos Cackler
is a turn 1 2/2 that can be played with either or mana.
Reverberate is here to double cast burn spells in the mid-game to hopefully win. It also is a great pair for lifegain cards like Lightning Helix.
Okay, so now it's time to take a realistic approach and talk about how effective this deck can be, especially since it doesn't have fetchlands. surprisingly, it is still relatively fast. In almost all cases I have had adequate mana to cast spells and can keep my life total from draining. It has also even produced turn 5 wins with ideal scenarios taken place. That's one mana of every color playable by turn 3 (one being city of brass) and a mixture of Reverberate, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Helix, Boros Charm, Bump in the Night, and Lingering Souls. So it's still pretty competitive. Again, this is a budget deck, it can surprise some more expensive decks, but don't bet on consistently beating them.
Enjoy.
