My take on the classic "The Rock" archetype, a BG midrange deck on a budget. Cards that would have a direct upgrade:
Abrupt Decay -> Assassin's Trophy
Smallpox is to help take the place of Collective Brutality and Lilliana of the Veil, with Garruk Relentless
as the budget replacement planeswalker of choice. Nothing replaces the value engine that Dark Confidant provides at 2 CMC, so this deck doesn't bother to try. The Twilight Mire is to help with the cost of Smallpox and to help with the lack of Verdant Catacombs though four in the deck might be overkill (and just me feeling self-concious about a lack of non-basics.)
