Budget Mono-White Soldiers

Modern Aggro Mono-White Soldiers

The base of the deck is Preeminent Captain, who makes playing soldiers a lot faster and allows us to cheat out high cost soldiers on early rounds. For example, with a Preeminent Captain you could cheat Captain of the Watch on turn 4. The main downside of Preeminent Captain is that creatures that are cheated in by him must enter tapped and attacking. This means that cheating in a Captain of the Watch is dangerous if the opponent can block. However, even if you Captain of the Watch dies, the soldiers that attacked with her and Preeminent Captain will still be getting +1/+1, and as an even better bonus, you get three 1/1 soldier tokens too. If you cast Righteous Charge before you cheat in a Captain of the Watch, she has a good chance of surviving.

The main win condition of this deck is Odric, Master Tactician. You must have at least 4 creatures out (including him) for it to be possible though. Pairing a Righteous Charge with Odric's block control can easily win a game, getting at least 8 extra damage in that combat.

This deck is also great for winning trades, because only 2 of the creatures don't have First Strike (Captain of the Watch, and Veteran Swordsmith. Both of them make up for it by buffing up the other First Strikers though. If I had the money, I would swap out my Swordsmiths for Field Marshal in order to get First Strike on everything.

Some good combos:

Righteous Charge + Preeminent Captain who cheats in a Captain of the Watch. Every soldier (except the Captain of the Watch) gets +3/+3 from this combo.

Dictate of Heliod + Mobilization or Elspeth, Sun's Champion. The ability to pay 3 mana for a 3/3 soldier is pretty good. The ability to each turn get three 3/3 soldier tokens secures a win pretty easily.

Turn 2 Precinct Captain + Turn 3 Veteran Swordsmith and attack with Precinct Captain. This happens pretty often with this deck. Attacking with a 3/2 first strike turn three is almost always good, and the opponent has to weigh losing an important creature or taking 3 damage and allowing us to gain a 1/1 soldier token.

Some tips:

If you're planning on using your mana on your turn to only use Mobilization's ability, it might be better to pass, and put them in as your opponent is declaring attackers next turn. Getting surprise blockers can mess with your opponent's plans, and then on your next turn, they will be able to attack too.

Try to bait out removal before playing your Preeminent Captain. You might want to cast a Righteous Charge or Armored Ascension rather than play your Preeminent Captain in order to bait your opponent to remove a buffed up creature when you attack with it. It's important to make sure that your Preeminent Captain can attack next turn.

If you can't block and kill a large creature with your First Strikers, cast Judge Unworthy after you block with them. Many times you'll be able to kill it with the First Strike damage and the extra Judge Unworthy damage. As an extra bonus you get to Scry 3, although your opponent gets to see what you put on top unfortunately.
