Sideboard

Maybeboard

A good first modern deck, elves is a great budget deck that can be greatly improved upon to make an extremely competitive deck. While Elves is not typically considered a tier-1 modern deck, don't let that fool you! Elves is a modern deck capable of being both extremely explosive and agressive matching the speed of the fastest decks in modern and fighting a long and tough battle very far into the late-game. Elves is very much able crush even the most powerful modern decks out there. The fact that it is not thought of as a tier 1 deck simply means that there will not be people with slots in their sideboard specifically for cards to play against this deck.

Here’s an example that shows the explosiveness of the deck:

Turn 1: Forest, Elvish Mystic.

Turn 2: Forest, tap the 2 Forests and the Elvish Mystic to play Heritage Druid and Dwynen's Elite, tap those three for using Heritage Druid's ability and use that mana to play Elvish Archdruid.

Turn 3: Forest, Dump even more elves onto the battlefield with Collected Company and/or find your win conditions with Chord of Calling. Then generate tons of mana and finish your opponent off on turn 3 or 4 with either the Devoted Druid + Vizier of Remedies combo or the 2 Devoted Druid + Ezuri, Renegade Leader combo or with Shaman of the Pack or with simply Ezuri, Renegade Leader himself.

While the combo is every powerful, you don't even the combo to win as the deck is an extremely powerful deck even without the combo as it can simply just play Ezuri, Renegade Leader, activate his ability once and then swing for the win.

This deck has a sideboard full of various silver bullet creatures that can severely hinder or even single-handedly take down some of the strongest decks in modern. Since we have 4 card:Chrod of Calling maindeck, when we sideboard in one silver bullet creature, it is almost as if we are sideboarding in a playset of them since we can tutor them up with any of the 4 Chord of Calling or even just try to dig through our library for them with any of the 4 Collected Company. The go to card to sideboard out is Elvish Visionary, it's a good card but against most decks, whatever silver bullet sideboard creature you are going to sideboard in will be better.

Please leave comments with suggestions, opinions, observations etc. if you have any and make sure to +1 Upvote the deck if you like it.

Also feel free to add it to your folders, playtest it, make it yourself and play with it etc.

I fixed up the sideboard to help me more in bad matchups and changed the name of the deck from "Budget-ish Modern Elves" to "Abzan Elves!" as I could no longer truly call the deck a budget deck. While I don't have Cavern of Souls and Horizon Canopy in the deck, the deck I do have is too expensive to call a budget deck.
