Hello every one! Today I bring you a budget combo deck with Fblthp as the commander? How does he combo with anything you might ask, well he doesn't... But he does draw you a card, so that does help us a little when you are trying to win with our real win-con.
Jace, Wielder of Mysteries + Tunnel Vision
Ok so it isn't a perfect combo but that's budget for you. So now the question is, how are you going to find the cards you need? Well tutors area always great, but sadly we are still on a budget so we can't really use any. So what's our next best option? Well just plan old draw power would be good, but when players see someone drawing twelve cards a turn they tend to target them with their attacks. Which is why this is also a group hug deck!
At this point I have to ask you all, how good is your politic skills? Well it's ok if they aren't so good as I've thrown in several cards that can keep opponents from attacking you or creatures off the board.
I know what you all must be thinking though, how do we know whats on the bottom of our deck for
Tunnel Vision
to work? Well you could just cheat and look at the bottom card, but most playgroups frown upon that so I wouldn't recommend it. So instead we have some other cards that can help with that.
Canal Dredger
Epitaph Golem
Junktroller
Sea Gate Oracle
Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar
Dream Cache
Conjurer's Bauble
and
Vessel of Endless Rest
all mess with the bottom of your library. Simply put something down there, and remember what it is before playing your combo.
Now some of you who looked at the deck list might have noticed that there is some cards here that work against our game plan. Cards like
Vortex Elemental
Void Stalker
and
Gomazoa
all shuffle our library. Well that's sort of the issue with playing a budget deck. You don't have access to really good cards that keep your opponents from attacking you like
Propaganda
and other similar cards, but that is also why we run a lot of cards that put things back on the bottom.
As I mentioned above, this is also a little bit of a group hug deck, mostly in the fact that you can let your opponent draw a couple cards, along with you. Again this is mostly in here to help keep people off your back. I mean you have to go through 99 cards if you want to win the game, so would it really hurt the opponents if they let you draw a couple cards, so long as it means they can as well? Also a lot of blue group hug draw cards, are at instant speed, so that makes up for helping our opponents out a bit.
We also have a couple cards that tap down your opponents stuff/bounces them to help keep our opponents away. Some odd inclusions to the deck like
Roiling Waters
are in here mostly to play politically. Make a deal with a player. Tell them that you'll bounce a couple of cards one opponent has so that they can be more open for an attack, and you'll even let one of them draw a few cards, so long as they don't attack you. Though really it comes down to how you want to play the deck.
While there are a lot of cards you could swap out for better ones, the biggest and probably the most important card to put into the deck, if you choose to spend more money, is
Laboratory Maniac
Just the fact that he's another copy of our
Jace, Wielder of Mysteries
is enough in my opinion to be put into the deck, however do keep in mind that it does require another card that makes you draw at least two cards. Still this deck is meant to be fun and on a budget, and getting out at under $25, I would say I've achieved that goal.
