You can and should fine-tune it to make it work against your playgroup to make it better. For instance, I play against a pretty control-heavy meta where counterspells and ways of killing creatures are prevalent. Therefore, I included many ways to make sure that the Gitrog Monster stays on the board. I also try to avoid my playgroup's methods of controlling the game by getting the Gitrog Monster out as soon as possible with many cards to help ramp into it.
