Maybeboard


BU Control/Discard deck of my own design. Looking for advice on the mana base, as well as general thoughts on promoting maybe board stuff to the main deck.

Goal:

  • Empty dat hand. While I'm at it, give me bonuses for doing so with Waste Not.

Mechanics:

  • There is a simple combo with the Cavern Harpy + Ravenous Rats . At the end of your turn I pay a life to put the harpy in my hand, cast it on my turn, return a rat, then cast the rat. You lose another card.
  • The Recoil is a super flex card; creatures/enchantments/planeswalkers/lands whatever I don't want you to have... I play it when your hand is empty so it's target is gone. Worst case I return something I can't deal with to your hand, and hope to Counterspell it when you cast it again.
  • Specters aid in discard. Simple evasion with flying. If I play my cards right, Guul Draz Specter is the end game... your empty hand means 5/5 coming in hot, over and over again.
  • Multiple copies of Waste Not give me tons of meat shields, B mana, and/or free draws.
  • Funeral Charm is also super flex; discard, pump an attacker/defender, or possibly get a beefed up Guul Draz through your defenses.

Ideas / Advice:

  • I'm thinking of putting in the Horrifying Revelation playset in for the Duress and/or Ostracize, or some combination of the three.
  • I like the effects of the Piracy Charm, but I haven't play tested it in the deck yet.
  • I'm also on the fence about the Abyssal Nocturnus and/or Blizzard Specter; need to play test these too. The Nocturnus has great evasion that should come naturally by playing my discard spells, and the Blizzard gives me another chance to get bounce a permanent I can't deal with to be Counterspelled later.
  • Looking for comments on the mana base too. I only own two Underground Sea so that's all I'm putting in. I'm on the fence between the Underground River, Tainted Isle, and Drowned Catacomb. I'm going to take damage from the Cavern/Rat combo so pain land isn't as appealing. I've been leaning toward the TI. Just found DC today and with all the swamps I'm running it seems like it would work well; again need to play test it.
