Maybeboard

Intro

I feel this deck is very robust for Brudiclad as it provides many options for a player to exploit different potential wins. If one combo doesn't work, try the next one. The resiliency is also there because if you cannot pulling off your combos, you can fall back on making your tokens into big beatsticks by making them into anything from Wormcoil Engine tokens, myr battlespheres, reef worms, etc.. or use this opportunity to set up your combos and use the tokens as a distraction for your opponents to be more worried about damage and not combos. I avoided most one-ofs effects like Dragon Fodder or Beetleback Chief as I feel they lack the necessary power and utility to keep things going as I would much rather have continuous effects than one-ofs. I also avoided most attack triggers like Captain Lannery Storm as this leaves powerful creatures open to die and with little access to recursion, i'd rather set up my board passively and politic than make fast enemies

The Trifecta card:

  • Few cards can be given this title in decks, and Tamiyo's Journal is considered the trifecta card of this deck. The Holy Bible if you will. What is a Trifecta card? It's a card that can do 3 things at once with little effort on your part and big game changing at the same time. Tamiyo's Journal does just that. She makes tokens for Brudiclad, Brudiclad can turn every other token into the tokens this artifact produces then use it's ability to tutor a card! Tutor for unwinding clock with lots of clues, and BAM, tutoring during opponent's turns, your turn, whenever. And the final point that makes this card so good to have three benefits for us? The clues. If you run out of cards in hand, or run out of gas if you will, you can make all your tokens into the clues to draw some cards to try to get the cogs turning again. This card is amazing and deserves the title of a trifecta card in this deck

Theory combos:

  • Goblin Kaboomist . Make a token of him before your next turn and turn all tokens into him. Next turn double all your tokens and start flipping coins. Worst case scenario you lose all kaboomist tokens but still have the same amount of tokens before your upkeep as they have now replaced themselves. A very explosive card for tokens. Add Chance Encounter with this and you could get an instant win in the funniest way possible. Who thought they'd wake up and lose to Chance Encounter . Your opponents sure didn't.

  • Prototype Portal exiling Aetherflux Reservoir . Make a token of Aetherflux, then make all tokens into Aetherflux. Proceed to cast multiple spells to gain an exponential amount of life and shoot everyone with Aetherflux. I'm still considering the viability on whether this can hold it's own or would take up two spaces in a deck that needs those space.

  • Prototype Portal + Powerstone Shard + brudiclad = lots of tokens or lots of mana

  • All cards in maybe board are under consideration and careful examination for a spot in the 99, and may not ever find a place. It's difficult to find a slot in this deck as I feel the deck is already very well rounded, but I am open to suggestions and will happily listen to what you feel should be removed and replaced

Plans

  • metamorphic alteration is an extreme consideration and has a good chance of replacing supplant form to make tokens of important creatures for 2 Mana making it very efficient too.
  • Proteus staff needs to find a place to cycle through combo creatures for the deck. High priority placement and consideration
  • spellskite is an extremely strong card for protection for brudiclad and combo pieces by being a "lightning rod" for spells will probably be replacing swiftfoot boots
  • Looking to place Electrodominance in somewhere
  • Spell Swindle is up for consideration
  • Curse of Opulence is a consideration
  • Open for discussion however this deck is pretty well rounded but may need more counterspells, but what to remove for that slot is unknown

This section is to discuss minor adjustments to the deck to fit specific metas and explain why this decision is made

  • Legion Warboss , Rite of the Raging Storm , or Goblin Assault . Which one? If your meta, play group or even game your in is light on creature removal, Legion Warboss is the perfect fit into the deck with a fantastic mechanic to buff your creatures and make tokens for the same low price as goblin assault and has the better effect of making only that token attack and not all goblins attack. If Legion Warboss isn't safe enough, the default go to is goblin assault but this puts your tokens into a tight spot of being lost to blocks, and finally Rite of the Raging Storm. Yes this is 5 mana to cast. But its better than the previous two. It's a great politic card to create a tempo play and make allies. and the token isn't lost if Brudiclad is on your field since the elemental has the text "Sacrifice this creature at the end of the turn." The decision on which to opt for is up to you and which to trade out is yours too

  • Swiftfoot Boots or Darksteel Plate . Which one? Does you meta run a lot of spot removal? Go with the boots. Or does your meta run rampant with boardwipes? Go with the plates then

Final thoughts

I feel brudiclad is a very interesting commander with plenty of utility and just enough jank to make a game interesting. This deck list makes brudiclad a very resilient commander with many options to outright win or beatdown your opponents into submission. Please feel free to make suggestions and comments. Criticism is welcome and improvements and outside thoughts are appreciated

  • removed Rite of the Raging Storm added Proteus Staff another playtest swap with some solid potential for a permanent home. With the low creature count and how strong these creatures are, turning a 2/1 myr into an utvara hellkite or wurmcoil engine sounds juicy. Walking ballista not so much, but the pay off is very good with a very small risk of losing ballista which isn't too big of a deal. with cards like buried ruin, academy ruins, or even trading post, losing only a ballista is definitely worth the risk and a try

  • removed Rhystic Study added Metamorphic Alteration rhystic study has always been a card looked at for a potential remove especially since the introduction of consecrated sphinx into the deck. The enchantment provides us with a highly mana efficient copy spell on our token or a commander removal by turning one's commander into a weak 2/1 or something along that line. Highly effective swap

  • removed Swiftfoot Boots added Spellskite swapped equipment protection for basically a lightning rod of free protection, great token copy card too

  • removed Myr Battlesphere added Cathodion this is a playtest swap and may have a permanent home. This swap was made in favor of a more mana efficient creature that can make mana and combo in nim deathmantle combo.

  • removed Thran Dynamo added Mana Vault dropped thran for better mana rocks but thran is a perfectly viable option for budget builds

  • removed Flameshadow Conjuring added Faerie Artisans flameshadow was marginally weak as not too many creatures to number of creature count couldn't be used as well as it could, and has been traded in terms of a more powerful card that can even playing fields and even tilt playing fields into your advantage

  • removed Metallurgic Summonings added Vedalken Orrery metallurgic was a tough decision but because only 16 instants and sorceries are in the deck and only 14 can be used for this card, metallurgic is a weaker card for this build but can be excellent in many other builds, Vedalken Orrery gives brudiclad the advantage of flash to abuse upkeep triggers with cards like mechanized production or thopter spy network and makes them extremely effective

  • removed Arcane Artisan added Saheeli Rai arcane artisan gives me a disadvantage by removing important pieces from the game to make a token and doesn't fit well with other cards like feldon or academy ruins. I'm playtesting saheeli for her scry ability and the additional copy ability and if I pull off ult, that's an easy win

  • removed Mirrorworks added Metallurgic Summonings Mirrorworks rarely popped off and after the removal of powerstone shard, Mirrorworks became less of a necessity and more of a hindrance that did not progress my board state or my win

  • removed Tezzeret, Artifice Master added Consecrated Sphinx tezzeret was removed in favor of card advantage and serious gas potential. Sphinx gives us the ability to refill our hand very quickly and effectively. Create a token of the sphinx, and it's off the the races with us. After a full turn has passed with sphinx on the field, we would have about 6 tokens of it on field, allowing us to draw 12 cards for every opponent's one draw. Pure gas and power

  • removed Powerstone Shard added Ashnod's Altar A difficult decision as this was one of my most sought after tricks in the deck in favor of a utility and combo piece. Shard will be missed unless i can find a spot

  • removed Pia's Revolution added Nim Deathmantle This lackluster recursion was pulled in favor of more reliable recursion as another utility piece and a combo piece

  • removed Rocky Tar Pit added Boseiju, Who Shelters All

  • removed mountain added Kher Keep

  • removed Purphoros, God of the Forge added Pia's Revolution through much play testing, purphoros is very lackluster with the amount of damage he does and requires an explosive turn to make great use of him. I've decided to drop him in favor of one more artifact recursion, something this deck needs

  • removed Prototype Portal added Swiftfoot Boots prototype portal turned out to be a dead card in hand without the right cards in hand

  • removed Chancellor of the Forge added Tezzeret, Artifice Master chancellor can be explosive with a good board state but for that Mana, my opponents are dropping 1 to 3 board wipes before I can reach chancellor making him another dead drop and decided to add another token makers that also adds card draw and a very nice ult.

  • removed Goblin Kaboomist added Utvara Hellkite , through some play testing, kaboomist isn't as explosive as initially thought and needs a specific board state and hand to begin the kaboomist process making this too risky and dead in the hand. Thus moved him to Maybeboard for a janky version of the deck
