Behold, the wonderful workshop of artifice! I bought the Breya Commander Deck when it was first released, and had played it from the box without edits. But like any great artificer, I had to tinker with it. I did a little bit of browsing online for how people built Breya, but I couldn't find anything I enjoyed. Most decks seemed to be oriented around Infinite Combos, which is definitely an option, but one I wanted to avoid. My idea was to build Breya as a Toolbox deck. The deck uses a crazy amount of internal artifact synergy to generate a lot of card advantage. Once the deck has a nice engine going, it can win in a variety of different ways! Here are the reasons why I find Breya to be one of my most efficient, fun, resilient, and versatile decks I own.

Many commander decks are narrowed in their win conditions, but Breya has an outrageous amount of ways to dismantle your enemies, whether that be building a gigantic, armored fighting machine with equipment, making hordes of little token creatures to swarm your opponents, milling them to death, smacking them with direct damage, or stealing all of their artifacts. With various angles of attack, the deck can adapt to fighting a variety of tough adversaries.

The core of the deck contains plenty of ways to generate card advantage through micro-combos. Artifacts that enter the battlefield are abundant. Sacrifice engines help use your artifacts as fuel for other combos and effects, and there are many of ways to recur them later on!

The versatility of the deck is only matched by its resilience. The deck is full of recursion and graveyard reanimation, which is excellent for a deck where you can sacrifice cards for value to be used over and over again. You can beat out your enemies simply by grinding away their resources while you can get your cards back!

Strengths

  • Resilient
  • Versatile
  • Highly Combo and Syngery Oriented
  • Excellent in Multiplayer

Weaknesses - Relies heavily on Artifacts, meaning you can easily get blown out by something that exiles or prevents artifacts from working. - Four colors, and my mana base is really budget. Hasn't hurt me all that much just yet, but I imagine that it could in more competitive games.

This Deck is For You If - You love artifacts (No brainer). - You enjoy lots of small combos and synergy to gain advantage. - You like having flexibility and adaptability in your games. - Having a variety of ways to win the game. - You enjoy reanimation and recursion. - You enjoy Voltron-Style Builds (It's one of the win conditions). - You enjoy building the greatest machine!

This Deck is Not For You If - You don't like combos that require a lot of forethought and planning. - You like instants and sorceries. This deck runs very few. - You don't like abusing the graveyard. - You want a deck highly centered around playing your General. I've played and won numerous games without ever casting Breya. That being said, she is really good, but not necessary. - You like playing Reactive decks. Although there are ways to react to your opponent, there are no counter spells, and hardly any instant threats outside of artifact shenanigans.

Win/Loss Record 11 Wins / 1 Loss (All Multiplayer Games)

Other Notes - My friends and I decided to make Commander decks that only could contain "Modern" Framed Cards (M15 and Beyond) in an attempt to limit the power of certain deck types and promote using different cards. As you can see, every card in my deck has been printed (or will be reprinted soon) in the Modern Frame. This was a really neat idea, and I'm sticking to it for this deck, so please do not suggest any card that's not in the Modern Frame. - I often play "casual", multiplayer Commander. I say casual because very few people around the table are packing any cards in their decks that are outrageously priced or top tier cards. This deck is designed for those games in mind! The cards found in the Side Board are cards that I own and that I have actively traded in and out of the deck to test. - The cards found in the Maybe Board are cards I want to test out. - The cards found in the Acquire Board are cards that I definitely want to buy to put in the deck (with testing).

I invite all of you to please share your thoughts on my list, as well as give me suggestions as to any cards that seem like good inclusions in the deck, or even cards I should cut. Discussion is welcome, and thanks in advance! Feel free to try my list!
