Brain in The Tide/Tide in a Jar

Standard Combo Theme/Gimmick UBR (Grixis) Zombie

Sideboard

I came up with this deck a couple of weeks after the release of Kaladesh. The basic idea was to cheat out instant/sorceries all in hopes to gain a mana cost advantage and eventually a large board state. When I initially tried to construct this deck it was going to be mono blue with some red splash, primarily because I didn't have the money to purchase a Liliana, the Last Hope. Since I opened one up in a booster not too long ago I decided to give Grixis a shot.

Creatures/Planeswalkers:

Cryptbreaker; This little dude used to be accompanied by a couple Smuggler's Copter's, the ultimate looter scooter. I had to improvise due to the recent bannings and what seems to be a shifting standard. This guy will continuously infuriate your enemy whilst popping 2/2 Zamb's to keep a steady board, plus, he can give us card advantage later throughout the game.

Geralf's Masterpiece; This guy either works tremendously as a flying blocker, or as a fat meat head to slap in your opponents face, because of his 'Become meaner as you cast spells' ability.

Liliana, the Last Hope; Basically a control theme early, a mill in the middle, and a win in the late. Of course this is if she isn't answered quickly. This in turn, will cause the opponent to focus on her, and not you (always a bonus considering the low amount of blockers in this deck).

Artifacts/removal:

Brain in a Jar; The theme of this deck is to use this slow burner to eventually drop up to forty zombie tokens at instant speed for one mana.

Lightning Axe; Spot removal. Another thing to note is Brain in a Jar can only cast something with converted mana cost equal to the charge counters on it. Lightning Axe can get around this by having a converted mana cost of and . This gives me more options in the late game, which is worthy enough to drop in the main board.

Compelling Deterrence ; Get rid of something annoying, then have the benefit to make them lose out on a card.

Unlicensed Disintegration; This is something I am testing out, we'll see how it works.

Liliana, the Last Hope; Yeah, she counts as removal (at least in this list she does).

Zamb population/self mill tactics/slight combo:

Shamble Back ; This tactic works somewhat well, when there is a Geistblast in the grooveyard this will function much like a From Under the Floorboards .

Nagging Thoughts; Some vanilla self mill with a twist.

Pieces of the Puzzle; This card is great, however, I feel I mill my Brain in a Jar's too often, thus, only half a playset.

Geistblast; Something I think is really fun to do with this card is to copy a Rise from the Tides after dropping it from my Brain in a Jar. This usually results in a pissed off friend or a loss of said friend.

Gisa's Bidding; Zamb's are so groovy.

From Under the Floorboards ; A card that can be cast early to get a slight advantage, a card to cast mid game to get some board-state, or a finisher.

Rise from the Tides ; This is a win-con when I want it, and a panic button when I need it.

Thank you for reading all of that, if you are interested in making your own Brain in the Tide/Tide in a Jar/From Under the Jar go for it, I just suggest using specific cards to combat your meta, as this deck doesn't do well against aggro and almost any Superfriends deck. I have an enormous amount of fun playing with this deck, it has been the funnest deck I've played in standard since Ravnica's Golgari deck. Remember, if you wanna slap your friend in the face with eighty Zamb tokens, this is just about the funniest way to do so. (The largest amount of Zamb's I got through this deck was by dropping Rise from the Tides using Brain in a Jar and copying it twice using Geistblast. This resulted in ninety eight 2/2 brain fiends)
