I would call this a deck that uses strong cards but plays to make a big splash over winning. There are four layers to this deck's strategy.

First layer: Get Braids out, drop big things, steal and copy other people's big things, draw tons of cards and control the board with removal and counterspells to keep your advantage asymmetrical.

Second Layer: Wizard Tribal synergies. A large number of creatures in this deck are wizards and use other wizards to great effect. Sigil Tracer , Galecaster Colossus , and Azami, Lady of Scrolls are the major ones. These can be tutored with Vedalken AEthermage . Every wizard has a significant effect in its own right.

Third Layer: Choices all around. Many pile cards like Fact or Fiction are included. I just find these effects fun, and with Braids helping the table, there's often political ability in these cards.

Fourth Layer: Combo off if combat isn't getting there. Temple Bell + Mind Over Matter lets you mill everyone out with draws. Ulamog, the Ceaseless Gyre and Echo of Eons let you shuffle your graveyard back into your deck in case you lose combo pieces, or so you never mill out. Azami + Mind over Matter can draw your entire deck independently to help you assemble this combo.

Synergies of Note:

Leyline of Anticipation lets you flash Braids out before your turn, so you get to be the first one to use her.

Feel free to give Braids away with Sudden Substitution . The effect is symmetrical after all.

Temple Bell + Consecrated Sphinx is amazing.

Treasure Mage can find The Immortal Sun , Caged Sun , Memnarch , and The Magic Mirror .

Homeward Path is for politics and for Perplexing Chimera shenanigans.

Riptide Shapeshifter can pull the following from the deck at instant speed:

  • Sphinx = Consecrated Sphinx

  • Praetor = Jin-Gitaxias

  • Rogue = Agent of Treachery

  • Elder or Dinosaur = Nezahal, Primal Tide

  • Chimera = Perplexing Chimera

  • Giant = Galecaster Colossus

  • Noble = Empress Galina

  • Faerie = Sower of Temptation

  • Kraken = Scourge of Fleets

  • Eldrazi = It That Betrays or Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre
