Looking for a new Standard deck for when mine becomes not standard on Oct. 5th

I chose R/B Vamps, cause they move fast and with red and black there is lots of control.

What do you guys think?

This kinda deck is going to be formidable in standard tournaments?

Cavern of Souls will be going in as soon as I can get them, but for now I'm using Blackcleave Cliffs.

From looking at it, I think you have too many red sources. You have 4 Cavern of Souls , and since you would obviously declare vampires, that provides you with red, along with the playset of Dragonskull Summit . You shouldn't need the 4 Mountain s or 2 Evolving Wilds at all. I'd replace them with Swamp s, and think about adding two or three Mutilate s to either the deck or the sideboard. Field wipes can come in handy at the right time.

Ok thanks

I agree to taking out the Mountain s. A total of 8 land that can tap for red is enough.

And i think ill either sideboard in Mutilate s or sideboard two other kill spells instead cause the board wipe mechanic would be helpful.

I really like your deck, I made this deck:fire-blooded-vampires, but I was feeling that was missing something, and was more BLACK.

Falkenrath Aristocrat is better than Olivia Voldaren , as you will not have enough red mana to take advantage of her ability.

Bonfire of the Damned is great for any deck with red although this would probably mean you would have to add a few mountains which you have already taken out. I also agree that Olivia deserves a spot in any vampire deck, she can control a field by herself.

I would sideboard Victim of Night and replace that with something else in case you run into those creatures, which is likely with current standard.

maybe you could add a couple of Rolling Temblor to sideboard ;)

why no Stromkirk Noble ? You also need a one drop creature mate.

I think you need the Killing WaveMTG Card: Killing Wave, Blood ArtistMTG Card: Blood Artist combo in here.

July 10, 2012 6:24 p.m.

I stayed away from Stromkirk Noble since I am running Vampire Nocturnus and dont want to flip it and have a red card screw it all up. lol

This is also why I stayed away from red only spells.

If I were to put in a 1drop creature I could run either: Typhoid Rats for a wonderful deathtouch blocker, Tormented Soul for an unblockable, meh, or I could put in Gravecrawler for a high dmg 1drop that can be brought back at a pivotal time late game. Gravecrawler is the most likely 1drop to go in but none of my options have the Vampire type.

With no Vampire Lacerator or Bloodghast , I don't feel like Vampires are ready for standard. But, if you are insistent on building it, I suggest you change a few things.

First off, you have 18 creatures. That isn't enough, especially since you are going for buffs with the Stromkirk Captain and the Vampire Nocturnus . You need reliable 2 and 1 drops as well for early board presence. I might suggest either Blood Seeker , Blood Artist , or Vampire Interloper . If you go with the first two, you can make some excellent Killing Wave /Mutilate combos that should help you even up with aggro before you drop a larger vampire.

Second: Too much hand hate. Despise is good. Running 4 of it and 2 Duress isn't. You are going to topdeck Despise at a critical period turn 8 and it will not doing anything because your opponent has no hand left to pick apart.Frankly, I'd say you should run none at all maindeck, because it is for specific cards like Wurmcoil Engine , and will do nothing against any rounds you see against control.

Final Words: 8 maindeck killspells are a bit much. Falkenrath Aristocrat should be a 3 of. Olivia Voldaren doesn't work with only 4 red sources, so don't add her. Seriously....add some early board presence so Vampire Nocturnus does something!

i know blackcleave is going out soon soon but i put a play set in so you dont get red mana screwed and a i put a 1 of mikaeuss, the unhallowed in my for late game and for aggo i put 4 knight of infamy in and 4 bloodthrone vampires in with duty bound dead but that is what i did

then again you can not take advantage of Falkenrath Aristocrat "sac human ability" at lest with Olivia Voldaren you can take control almost every turn.

Went to FNM last night. Not with this deck.

Watched a guy play a similar deck running Stromkirk Noble s and they work really well.

So I'm thinking of putting in 4, I don't think that will screw Vampire Nocturnus all that much. They just move the play so fast to ignore in a vampire deck.

I wouldn't suggest running Mutilate in this deck.. i tried with a mono black Vamp deck and it just doesn't work... Here you are trying to get board presence and get your vamps pumped by Nocturnus and ready to deal lethal... only to draw Mutilate and wipe the board? Mutilate is more suited for zombie decks or a MBC deck with less creatures... I also found that running 4 Noctornus was a bit excessive, especially when you are top decking land more than 1/3 of the time and the Nocturnus becomes a measly 3/3 WITHOUT Flying... That's just what i found anyway.

Here is my deck.... Mutilate not Glitterate! feel free to have a look and offer some suggestions. I am considering converting it to MBC and removing focus from Vamps at least for the time being. If the shocklands return in RTR, and vamps get a good black 1 or 2 drop, then Vamps will show more potential, until then...

July 14, 2012 10:07 a.m.

I completely agree with taking out Mutilate . Put it in the sideboard for now.

July 14, 2012 10:21 a.m.

Now I don't feel 7 kill spells is enough...

I guess since it's not MBC I don't need that many. Just feel so powerless without more control.

Run a dismember. I know it will rotate out in october, but by that stage hopefully RTR will have given us some new and wonderful removal :D

VampBoy says... #19

I should clarify more. Run a dismember in the mainboard, and add something like geth's verdict to your sideboard to replace it. :)

The deck is slow. Turn One stormkirk noble happens approximately 4% of the time..not very good as you have only 4 ways to do it...via blackcleave cliffs, also there are no two drops..the mana curve is also too slow considering also that you run only 22 the deck have many three and four drops...not a good deck to compete in "competitive" standard...It may only end up as a casual/fun deck as we may call it.

First off may I say, love it. I'm thinking about doing something like this for standard as well.

Now, I would recommend losing Despise in the main. Rarely is their going to be a creature that you HAVE to hit. Just take it up to four Duress in the main. Duress will hit a Planeswalker as well as Despise. Not to mention you have spot removal that will deal with the majority of the format's creatures, and a hard assault will force them to block with an underwhelming Thrun, the Last Troll or Geist of Saint Traft .
