Sideboard

Maybeboard

Enchantment (2)

Sorcery (1)

Artifact (1)

Instant (1)

This is a B/R version of my deck New Phyrexian Sax which, after rotating out of standard, I always thought would be a nice jumping-off point for modern brew. I added red as that seemed the best way to consistently do 2 damage per turn instead of just per round.

The deck runs like aggro burn while setting up the instant win Bloodchief Ascension Mindcrank combo. The point is to hit your opponent for 2 points three times with ascension on the board. Once it has 3 counters you basically do anything, including casting Sign in Blood, targeting your opponent, and you win as they enter a loop of self-mill and life loss that continues until they run out of either resource.

It's also easy to side out the combo and go nuts n bolts aggro. I think this would be very effective game two vs control.

I have everything for the deck except for Dark Confidants which will replace the Phyrexian Arenas.

I have no idea what to do with the sideboard. Here are my ideas and what each one is for:

Boil - against mono-blue
Geralf's Messenger - just toying with the idea of this. Seem very efficient at moving my plan forward when I'm getting attacked.
Terminate - against black decks
Grim Lavamancer - against mill
Gruesome Encore - to take advantage of Mindcrank if my opponent is playing fatties or (bwa-ha-ha) Eldrazi.
Hideous End - against creature-based decks
Rakdos Charm - against graveyard shenanigans or tokens.
Slaughter Games - against combo
Sudden Shock - against control
Torpor Orb - against ralley
Vampire Hexmage - against plainswalkers
Vampire Nighthawk (DZE) - against flyers
Volcanic Fallout - against tokens
Ragged Veins - against big blockers and Dromoka's Command to protect Bloodchief Ascension after siding.
Blessing of Leeches - another option for Dromoka's Command that doesn't require my opponent to have creatures.
