This is basically a mono-red aggro deck that splashes black for Scrapheap Scrounger, and then a couple of cards not typically in this build-- Bone Picker and Dire Fleet Poisoner.

Scrapheap Scrounger is just annoying to opponents because of the recursion. Once The Scarab God comes online, I try to have one of these in the graveyard so that I can respond to any creatures targeted by The Scarab God and exile them so that The Scarab God's target is gone. Works beautifully.

Dire Fleet Poisoner is an extremely undervalued card. As a creature with flash, it is effectively a 2 mana removal spell that hits any creature in standard (that doesn't have indestructible). Thus, The Scarab God, Carnage Tyrant, and other non-fliers are definite targets. I know that a lot of people get hung up on not having enough other pirates. I don't buy that argument at all. It's a 2 mana removal, or a creature that keeps attackers at bay. I don't need to play a bunch of other pirates for this card top be effective.

Bone Picker is just a good card. In an aggro deck, I have few problems casting this for 1 mana. Moreover, flying creatures seem to be at more of a premium in this current meta, so this card is important. It is also very good against decks running Hadana's Climb   where they give a creature flying and some obscene power/toughness (hence the 2 additional copies in the sideboard).
