Boros Reanimator

Description

alt textThis is a post-rotation deck that challenges the properties of the colors it's in by adding control elements and reanimation in a usually aggressive color combination. You use the stalling powers of Fiend Hunter and Cathedral Sanctifier to keep you safe as you bury your key components to use at a later time. Then around turn 4 when it looks like it's starting to weigh in their favor, whatever board presence they had seems insignifigant at this point. Any hunters that were killed earlier now come back and take away the heavy hitters they thought were going to bring you down, and the sanctifiers replenish most of what was taken. For the most part whatever is left is conscripted into your army for the turn. Often any attacking is pointless though, because the real star is often Kessig Malcontents , a card that was never even given a glance by most players. Imagine: You throw out a 4/6 flyer, two 3/3 hasters, two 1/3 creatures, one 1/1, and 2 3/1s all on the same turn, gaining you 3 life, exiling two creatures, stealing two creatures, attacking for at least 6, and dealing 14 damage automatically, all at the same time. Oh, and if that didn't finish them off, you've always got a 1 costed blasphemous act you can restart the field with and then bring back everything again, or a restoration angel to flicker a malcontent or conscripts for the win the next turn. And the great part is, this isn't some magic christmasland fantasy. This is what you'll expect to see out of this deck 95 percent of the time. and if you actually see the graveyard hate that will slow you down to a crawl, even if somehow your sideboard doesn't help protect your strategy, you always have the option to switch into a simple aggro deck mindset, which still holds its own.alt text

I like this idea. Something a little different then what noramlly passes of as a Standard deck. +1 from me.

Thanks! I'm not one for following the teir 1 decklistings. I still do well though. The deck I use in events for now, U/G Savaged Stalker , got 3rd at fnm the last time I took it. This one is currently just being played around with by me, seeing if I really want to switch over because I do well with and have fun with my current one.

I love your deck, its refreshing to see something different in standard. I like the "phoenix" element of the deck, that is, almost dying and then suddenly bursting out of the graveyard and crushing your unsuspecting oponent. +1 for originality!

I REEALLY LOVE THIS KIND OF DECK! When I saw Angel of Glory's Rise, I knew she'd find some type of place! The only thing I REALLY hate for reanimator decks is card:Tormod's Crypt and Nihil Spellbomb .... Post rotation though i can see Frites coming back with Angels and this deck! It should have its own name!

May I suggest the "PHOENIX'S RISE" ? It feels like a phoenix in flavor. But, I know, there aint no phoenix in the deck.....

I think you are loading up on too many discard entire hand spells, maybe it gets there, but splashing for blue doesn't seem out of the question for other card draw, or green for acceleration

I don't want card draw though. I'm trying to get as much as possible in the grave before i set it off. The only things I ever really want in my hand is a land per turn up to turn 4, Cathedral Sanctifier or Fiend Hunter to stall the opponent for a while, or late game I want to keep a Restoration Angel or Blasphemous Act to deal the finishing blow.If I were to splash for another color that would be stupid because a Fiend Hunter on turn 3 would be nearly impossible and I also don't have the room for mana fixing. I need all the room I can get for discard spells and creatures cuz if i go lower on either it won't work right.

I really like the idea behind this deck. Reanimators are always fun and it's nice to see a unique twist like this. Seems like it'd be really fun to play especially during a friendly (casual) game.

One of the immediate suggestions that came to mind is throwing in 2 or 3 Emancipation Angel s. The bounce effect would allow you to at least double up on the trigger effects of card:Angel of Glory's Rise, Restoration Angel , Kessig Malcontents and Zealous Conscripts .

Also, have you given any thoughts about about Heartless Summoning ? With the way you said this deck works their power and toughness aren't really an important part, rather their triggered abilities are. Heartless Summoning would get those key cards out faster. I don't think you want to run 4 of them (2 would probably be efficient) but I think it'd be nice to cast Restoration Angel (for example) for 2, still have it's effect take place, keep a board presence, and have plenty of mana to cast other spells. Test it out, Heartless Summoning may learn to be good friends with this deck.

Other suggestion I have, feeding off of Kessig Malcontents are Gather the Townsfolk and Vigilante Justice . As for Gather the Townsfolk, more humans on the field, means more damage from Malcontents after all. Not sure about the synergy of tokens within this deck so I'm a little hesitant to suggest this outright.

As for Vigilante Justice, might as well deal damage on the way in as well as on the way out right?

So, that's all I can think of for now. Obviously making room for these in this deck is easier said than done. But if nothing else at least give these suggestions some thought, playtest them even.

Good job +1

Oh oh, thought of some other suggestions. Sorry for the double post:

card:Faith's Reward? It'd be very mean of you to play this after a Blasphemous Act .

Healer of the Pride ? The little bit of additional life gain may help to stall out the game long enough to get this deck going.

Alright, that's it.

And a personal thanks to Jokernaught for commenting so I don't have to triple post.

Cloudshift would be another suggestion. It's, in my opinion, one of it if not THE best flickers in the game, period. Well, not including Poppa flicker Venser, the Sojourner .

I wouldn't mess with Cloudshift . Whle its a great flicker card, It will detract to much from the reanimator theme and the Orginality of the decks design.

Emancipation Angel s and and card:Faith's Reward are great additions. Stuff to think about possibly as really strong and powerful strategy to play with.

August 22, 2012 1:32 a.m.

I had cloudshift in the original build but it was taken out for blashemous act and restoration angel. Faith's Reward would take up space and I already accomplish what u said by just milling a bit after ive got everything onto the field, blasphemous act(costing R usually) and then the milling most likely got me to the next rites, so i b. act and bring everything back that same turn. For the heartless summoning idea, with all these discard hand spells, I lose some lands to the grave but its usually ok cuz ive got a very consistant mana base. With including hs I would have a clunky 3 color mana base, and if i were to discard lands then i would be screwed. Also my main way of playing creatures is having them come in for free on the back of angel of glory's rise, so summoning wouldnt be effective because it would waste time when i should be discarding things, and i dont need to play creatures from hand anyways. Same thing for Emancipation Angel. Sorry guys but i didnt like any of these suggestions.

Also, how can you get a picture onto the deck description like that? I'd like to do that to some of my decks. :D

I agree with pookypuppy6! Do tell how to get those pictures!

Wow, I want this deck. I want it bad ;). This is awesome, +1 all the way.

August 30, 2012 11:05 p.m.

img src="/path/to/img.jpg" alt="alt text" title="Title" with < at the beginning and > at the end( if i put them on there as is itll show an empty pic thing) and then take out all of the path to image part in the paretheses and put in the url of the pic u want. I do it in all of my decks :) makes it more exciting to look at.

August 30, 2012 11:08 p.m.

and feel free to put this together for yourself and test it out :) the only thing slightly expensive at all is the restoration angels.

Thanks for the help on the image stuff UGplayerWillie, got it working and it works a treat!

August 30, 2012 11:15 p.m.

Haha this is my least expensive deck. i don't usually buy everything though. me and some friends trade alot and give each other good deals even if we dont have anything the other really wants. I ordered everything I didnt get from them (or already had) from ebay which always has pretty good deals. If you go without the conscripts and the resto angels its still workable, just not as good. It would be really cheap then.

August 30, 2012 11:17 p.m.
